Can I connect a Yamaha 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver to my iMac

I am a music lover. I plan to buy a Yamaha HTR-5930SL 5.1-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver with a 5.1 speaker system.

I was wondering if i can connect the receiver to my iMac. Please help as I am new to the Mac world.

What kind of iMac do you have? The current iMacs have optical audio (mini) out, and I believe that that Yamaha receiver has optical inputs, so if you get a mini TOSlink to regular TOSlink cable (and then configure the DVD player (or whatever other app) for 5.1 surround).

I have a Yamaha 5.1 system hooked up to my Mac Pro via optical connection and I've been very happy with the outcome.
