TomTom has Mac support... infact it's more than "support" it's exactly the same as the PC version...!I had a TomTom - it was big, ugly and didn't know half the neighborhoods in my area. My Garmin Street Pilot does much better, and looks nicer as well. Glad to hear there will be OS X support for future updates...

I suspect both Garmin and TomTom have sleeker looking models today.

I finally broke down and bought a new GPS to replace my old Garmin. I was traveling on business and picked up a Garmin nuvi 350. I was really impressed with the small size, bright screen and well thought out menus. It fits easily in my jacket pocket.
I was able to use it right away, got me to my destination without any directions. I am glad to hear that the Mac version of the updater software is on the way.

Its swell and all that the forerunner is supported but the whole lameness with Gammin is that you can't upload you own maps into their GPS unit unless you use their mapsource software.
Its all very proprietary and closed and not mac compatible.
The Garmin maps are fine but until I can up laod a detailed map of an area from my Mac, it still sucks.
I have a Garmin CSx and have been waiting for the Mapsource map support since it was promised in 2006.
C'mon Garmin.

I am in the same boat. I have a 60CSx and I am using Google Earth and Maccache to get points into it with no support for maps.

Maybe the Nuvi 350 (my model) is different but don't all the maps come preinstalled? How much of detail are you looking for on these things?

Garmin handheld units require detailed maps be uploaded to them. They have a basemap installed but it only covers major roads.
The Nuvi has detailed road maps installed already but on models like the 60 series, you can load detailed street maps, nautical charts, topo maps, etc. To load these maps you must use Garmin's software.

Well, what is big news is that the Garmin Training Center software for the Forerunner and Edge GPS units was released today. If you are a runner like me, this is big news. Go Garmin!

I can't find any references to Mac support for the StreetPilot series, only for the training stuff. I have a c330 that has a map of Scandinavia on a memory card, and I desperately want to upgrade the map. Anyone know anything about this?

What you are looking for is the MapSource software. It is not ported to Mac yet. According to Garmin, we should be seeing MapSource some time Q2 2007. However, I wouldn't be supprised is that doesn't get pushed back till this fall. Patience. At least they are working on supporting the Mac platform. That's better then any other GPS company.
