Laser Printer Help

Need a decent laswer printer that will work with both macs and pcs.

Needs to have an ethernet port to hook upto to my LAN. Thanks!

I bought a Dell 3100cn from their refurb store for $249 w/free shipping. It has 4000-page toner cartridges, prints color slowly at about 4ppm (it is a 4 pass printer) but print b&w (which I do most often) at about 31ppm. The thing is big (as in quite big) but it works great. And the price is hard to beat. I print from both Macs and PCs wirelessly (it is hardwired into my wireless router with a fixed IP address).

Thanks for the thread! I was just searching the forums...apparently the $60 laser I found on cragislist isn't mac friendly...I didn't think of it when I laid down cash.

The tip from Dell is great. I am looking for one with a smallish footprint since it's for work use while working from home.

Will these printers still work? Do they need a new driver?

That is the other printer that I considered s the closes competitor. It is somewhat smaller, and is single pass (so color prints come out faster), but the b&w prints are much slower (8ppm vs. 31ppm). And the toners are about 4 times the price of the Dell's per page. The HP also has a much smaller hard-to-read display. Of course, the advantages of the HP are that it (and its supplies) is available everywhere.

You'll have to check each model specifically with the manufacturer's websites... not sure if they are going to commit to compatibility with an as-yet-unrealeased OS...

I think I might hold off then.

At least until vista has been out for a while.

64bit is going to be a big transition and I want to make sure there will be drivers out there.
