M-Audio DX4 Speakers

I've read positive posts on the M-Audio DX4 speakers, but I was wondering if I could get any other feedback on them or any other alternatives I may want to consider. Also, I'm a little bit confused about whether or not I can attach a sub to this setup. Some people mention that they run the M-Audio DX4s w/ a sub, but how exactly do you do this? Do you need a powered sub?

Usually a sub would get plugged into your soundcard and then the monitors are connected to the sub.

Are you looking for monitors in this price range only? Maybe you'd be better off spending a bit more on the monitors rather than getting a sub.
