View Full Version : Recommend me a new DS game (not MKDS, Starfox, or EliteBeat)

I already have the games listed. I am interested in a platformer I think.

Is Castelvania: Dawn of Sorrow really that great? Anyone have it?
I also was thinking of Tetris DS, cause of the online play.

Tetris is alright, online play doesn't add to the game IMO. But Castlevania is incredible. IMO one of the best games of any system yet.

Hm, out of all the games I own, these were good (in no particular order)

New Super Mario Bros.
Tetris (multiplayer)
Castlevania : DoS
Final Fantasy III
Trauma Center
Phoenix Wright (both Ace Attorney and Justice for All... start with Ace Attorney though)
Mario 64 DS

I'd recommend Phoenix Wright above all of those, though. Ace Attorney's my favorite game on the DS so far.

I really like Advance Wars, but if that's not your game then New Super Mario Brothers gave me hours of gameplay

I agree both of those games are really great, but I borrowed them both from a friend and played them to death.

of the two, i'd pick tetris ds over dawn of sorrow. castlevania was a great game, but i got so much more out of tetris (b/c of wifi) than i did from dawn of sorrow. outside the two, do you have or have you considered new super mario bros.? this game is my game of 2006.

Same here! I can actually practice on Mario Kart and Metroid without affecting my actual games scores! A little cheeky I know :p Beup DS is great when using the universities hot spots too.

If you like Tetris, the DS version really makes the game fun again. It's great to play with friends locally. Playing online isn't bad, but unlike MK DS which is great both ways, this one is more fun when you can see your friends squirming as you decimate them. :o

I've cleared well over a 1000 lines on the highest level of Tetris and only put it down because of fatigue. I beat all of the other games on level 5, except the boring stylus Tetris. :o The Donkey Kong Push Tetris is awesome. This one is a blast against a friend or the CPU. :)

Castlevania DS... *droooooool* BUY IT AND PLAY IT NOW!!! Absolutely the best game I've played in years. It has no equal.

What exactly is Castlemania about?

raggedjimmi
Jan 27, 2007, 10:31 PM
Castlevania?

It's about Dracula basically. All the games have a different (or direct story sequels like Aria and Dawn of Sorrow) stories but usually revolve around some people trying to bring back Dracula.

Gameplay is like a 2D Metroid. get power ups, unlock more of a big map, big bosses, non-linear game play. etc. Throw in the RPG style upgrade system AND weapon upgrade system and it's near enough perfect. Especially since they usually have fantastic soundtracks too.

Yes. :D

Get both. Or flip a coin.

Tetris DS is super super fun if you can find several friends to play with over wifi. The online play, however, is too limited and takes too long to get into a match.

But... I'd have to recommend Dawn of Sorrow first (I would tell you to play Aria of Sorrow before Dawn though, as the later is a direct sequel; you should also have played Symphony of the Night, but that requires you have a Playstation, and isn't portable).

Castlevania is a good game....it can get real boring though..theres only so many candles I could hit down before I've had enough. I would say get tetris if you want to play online and I like the Urbz for some reason:)

Hmm.. I wonder if it's legal to use a cracked copy of the games I own..

Just ordered a M3 simply, but mainly for playing Monkey Island and Sam and Max on ScummVM ;-)

Bomberman (from Ubisoft) can be a lot of fun if you play it with friends (no internet-wifi support!), and you should be able to get it really cheap..

Nope.

Sadly, MI3, was when the whole series started to slide. The game was great, but I like the previous 2 better. After that, the game went to complete shite with the grotesque 3D engine and elimination of the glorious point and click interface. :( I beat the game, but had to use the help guide for one area. I had to be exactly at coordinates xx yy, facing rXXX. Freaking lame. I spent more than a half hour, even after reading about the button I needed to press, trying ot find it. And the reason they got rid of point and click, so that they could port it to the PS2. Lucas Arts has been on my shite list since that time. They completely destroyed the controls just to accomadate the horrid game pad. :( Which brings me to why I like Nintendo better than any other company right now... :)

My friends have this, errr, thing, and although I condone it, I've tried out games to see if I wanted to buy them. I would want to get one of these things just for SCUMM. :)

No, here's (http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility.php) the compatibility chart. I don't even know if the M3 simply works with the current version of ScummVM, though I've read in the forums that some users managed to get it working.

EDIT: sorry, the chart actually says that it works, but according to http://scummvm.drunkencoders.com/, it doesn't work on the DS because of memory issues.

Well I finally got Tetris DS as I looked and looked for Castlevania and gave up (only could find the 2nd one).

I'm quite happy with Tetris as the only reason I had bought a Gameboy back in the day was for Tetris.

New Super Mario Bros. is really fun, it alone is the reason I'd buy a DS of my own (that and the sleekness of the DS Lite ;))

Agreed.

I would have gotten that but I borrowed it from a friend and conquered it a few months ago.

For the DS there is also some incredible cheap GBA games like:

Zelda Minish Cap
Sonic Advance 2
Astro Boy
Gradius Advance
Lunar Legend (The same as Lunar Silver Star on Sega CD)
Sword of Mana (The same as Final Fantasy Adventure on the GameBoy)
Mario and Luigi Supersaga

And I'm pretty sure these titles will go up in value in the years to come due to the compatibility with the DS.
Hope this will help!!!

bomberman DS is great multi player... and it is a single card multi play, yay!! ... but be wary of the single player mode. Also an interesting game is Lunar dragon song, it is the typical RPG which isnt as great as the console lunar, as I hear, because that was on the sega CD, but it does take a while to beat. but beware.... its an annoying RPG which can get frustrating, and has for me.

I think the earlier poster meant Final Fantasy VI Advance, which is a GBA game. It's a port of the SNES game, which was originally released in the US as Final Fantasy III, but was 6th in the series in Japan. It is a good GBA purchase, though the GBA's limited sound capabilities make it a little less enjoyable than the SNES original. The re-done translation and portability make it more attractive though, so. Trade-off.

Yes, there is also a complete re-make of the NES game Final Fantasy III, and that IS a DS game.

My favorite DS games so far have been the Phoenix Wright titles. I'm still working on Justice For All. After that I'll probably pick up New Super Mario Bros. and maybe Hotel Dusk. Or Big Brain Academy.

Or Big Brain Academy.

I have Big Brain Academy. It really isn't that great and I really don't really get the recommendations behind it.

There are about 14 puzzles at different levels of difficulty. Not exactly fun.

How about Lunar Knights? I've only gotten about an hour into it, but so far I'm enjoying it.
