ok I deleted all the languages and keyboard layouts I didn't need. Now my keyboard doesn't work in finder windows. Do I have to reinstall os x to fix this??

Monolingual is silly. Do an Archive & Install (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120) and you should be right. :)
