Thinking of buying this (http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/6124041/wa/PSLID?mco=16AA7155&nplm=TJ194&wosid=fV1Kkl3uBY9B3UFjJC42cYVFwRN) iomega 80GB portable drive to use with my MBP. Does anyone have any experiences with it? Although it has both USB and firewire inputs, it says USB powered - does this mean it can't be bus powered through the firewire port? (which is my intended use..)

Cheers

David

if it's from the Apple Store i think you can trust that it works just fine with the MBP

go enjoy it via either USB or Firewire

It means that the usb is going to be used to power the drive.(if you are using usb) As the firewire question I believe firewire will be powered through the firewire cable

Get the firewire! Every USB powered hdd drive I've owned always comes with two usb connectors because one isnt enough to fully power the drive, and since my Powerbook only has two USB ports, I lose both of them to one drive and two cables makes in more fiddly.

Firewire can deliver up to 30v (compared to 5.25v on USB) its fully powered... and since Firewire 400 is still faster for data transfer than 480mbps USB2....:)
