Hey all,

I just had a thought. Knowing that Windows will always be an easy target, and that new users of Vista will be flocking to install tons of "Gadgets" like we all did with Widgets, how long before "Gadgets" become the new weak spot?

I can just see it now. A Gadget for everything. And, the paranoia when you realize that your "Gadget" is watching you.

Plant this idea in the right spot, and I'm sure Vista will fall to it's knees. I'll be interested in seeing how this one works out.

I wonder if Microsoft has established a way to prevent this new feature from becoming a liability.

Even Apple had to tweak the Widgets a bit. But, I see this as potential disaster for Microsoft.

Don't download anything you don't trust. Be careful out there.

I see that title and think, I'd hate to be the one putting the Trojan on the horse.

But yes, it is a weak spot. Something you give permission to run/install.

That is the easy way around virus filters.

I don't think there's enough money in the world for that job ;)

Yes. I think with all the people running out to grab these "Gadgets" that there are going to be a lot of people installing them from unfamiliar sources. These types of programs are often coming from private individuals and very small companies.

Even in OS X, the majority of our "Widgets" come from small guys who make them for fun. But, in the Windows world, the prospects for problems seem significantly worse. Most of the Mac developers are a close community. But, the Windows world is a bit more wild.

Now, about that horse....
