After months and months of using brand new Intel iMacs at school, I've finally got enough for the iMac I want for myself! I'm so excited! I'm ordering Apple's refurb 24" iMac; 2.16GHz, 250GB and 1GB ram! :D I can't wait! I'm so sick of wanting to be at school just to use the Macs! YAY!

I ordered one on Sunday....2.33ghz, 2 gig ram, 500 gig hd, 7600GTgpu, wireless keyboard and mouse :) I asked if they could attach a big pair of balls to the bottom of it (they can't).

I can't wait. I rearranged the entire room that my computer resides in...cleaned up my desk area significantly -- the old 17" imac actually looks pretty good in the new setup.

I will also take some pics of the before and after. I'm sure the old gal is going to be a bit intimidated by the new fella.

Cheers,

darren

My wife asked me if I was pregant -- pregnant women go through a psychological shift that is called "nesting". It's essentially an inate desire to prepare for the arrival of offspring.

So, It would seem that I am preparing the nest for the arrival of my new iMac offspring...my 24.7 pound bouncing baby boy!

Sounds about right. :D

So, what's really inside? Refurbs occasionally come with freebies. Check "About This Mac to see if you really have a 2.16/1GB.

Yeah, it's all the same. lol... Too bad. At least mine doesn't have the ever so common hum. :)

It's all baseline. You can't upgrade anything with the refurbs. So, the 128... Fine enough. :)

Congrats all!

Question - With the 24" iMac, do you have to make allowances working with such a large screen? For example, do you feel the need to move it off the desk because of its size/brightness? I do a lot of word processing, and I am thinking about work efficiency, as well as the entertainment factor.

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand the example too well, but the larger screen seems more productive for me. Much more on one screen without having to scroll. Without stretching, Pages fits half the screen, so you could have two documents open at the same time and see both of them fully. As for entertainment, it has a very nice set of speakers. Much better than 17" and 20" (they use 12 watt amps). Movies on the large screen are beautiful. Standard DVDs scale very nicely. Sitting up close it's still very crisp. As for brightness, it is very bright. I don't understand why people don't like how bright it is. To me, it's much better. It doesn't take up much space either. Just one big monitor basically. Hope this helped! If ya need to know something else, I (and other 24" owners) will be glad to help.

Thanks wizwaz3

I know it seems a bit silly to question whether a larger screen = better productivity, but I have seen posts that refer to the 24" as being too large. However, space issues aside, I haven't read anything that would preclude me from buying one. If I decide on the 20" I will wait, but if it's the 24" I may not wait for Leopard/new iMacs.

Besides, NEVER regret getting a Mac. ;)

You may have convinced me to go for the 24" over the 20". Will have to be a refurb though so no 256mb graphics.

While a better graphics card may make the machine last longer having a larger screen is more use right now.

I'm no gamer, so the vid card isn't that important. All I need is for it to handle Final Cut Studio, which it does nicely.

So I got my iMac on Friday and have been on it all weekend, Now it's Monday and I had school. I went into my first period with all the iMacs (17" & 20") And they all look soo small now! I felt like I was betreying my big guy by using them. lol... The 20"ers don't even look big anymore... Oh well, I guess I'll dedicate myself to my big guy. Besides, the stupid teacher blocked ALL websites excpet 3. 2 Weather and Wikipedia... Hmph...

I was pretty much in the same boat as you when i got my first mac. I was using them at school and then got one myself. my parents offered to by a pc but after showing them a mac classic, they did not look any further.

that was over 20 years ago .......
