hey guys, i'm looking to get a midi controller. first off i do have a question... do i have to have an interface in order to use the controller with garageband? can i just plug it in via the usb port and away i go?

eventually i'll also be using it with pro tools and reason, but for now i want to avoid dropping money into an interface if i can.

since i'm in a dorm room i'm looking at a 25 key one... mostly this one:

does anyone have any experience with this controller, or can anyone suggest another one? thanks in advance.

I use an Oxygen8 personally, and since I dont have a MIDI card I used the USB option. worked fine.

got that one for Christmas - I love the size

I haven't used it in garageband yet though.... just Ableton

I asked about the 49/61 awhile ago:

And one poster answered:

"I just picked up the AXIOM 49 and the drum pads are in fact velocity sensitive and work very well, however the transport controls do not seem to work at all and the software to program them in from M-Audio does not seem to have any type of support for garageband which is somewhat frusterating. I am going to try some more software out and see how intuitive the keyborad is."

There's a thread discussing a hack to make Axiom work with Garageband;
