Look folks ('Quark' in particular),
No one wants to see a thread slamming another user--whatever the reason. (Especially one with a poll attached.)
And let's watch the implied language -- a post riddled with ****'ed out words is not something most of us are looking for here. (Mymemory.)

My sincerest apologies to everyone.
I got a bit carried away.
It won't happen again, and I totally agree with blakespot.
Again, my sincerest apologies to everyone!

I just noticed with much dismay that my insightful and funny poo-heads post was removed.
It ought to be site policy to send a private message to the policy violator with a description of which post was removed and why. This is not the first post of mine to be yanked without warning or explanation. And frankly, without naming names, may I be so arrogant as to say that there are plenty of other posts more moronic and wasteful of bandwidth than mine that are never touched. Just an idea.

We'll try to do this in the future.
I'm, not sure which post you are referring to... in general offtopic/flamewars are locked rather than deleted. Things that will buy you instant deletion include warez/serials talk, offensive links/posts, pointless threads (posts just intended to increase your post count... ie 5 posts which say "I agree")

I agree:D
Ya, I think that people should be nicer to each other even if they do shoot out anti-mac stuff every 10 seconds. Arn, are you using you own server or is Mac Rumors being hosted by some company? And how would you turn your normal computer into a server?(probably for some other thread, but I was just wondering)

MacRumors is hosted on a leased dedicated server. (Linux Machine @ http://www.servint.net ).
To turn your own computer into a server... you just need to run the proper software - _and_ you need a good connection to the internet.

I got a T1 connection and a G4 400 with 768 megs of ram, would that work good, and what software would I need. I have everything to make a site.(After Effects, ..........)

I have a G4 500MHz running 10.1 server. It has internet services coming in from 5 different companies. 5 e-net ports in the back!
It probly is like a T10 connection, no joke

the fastest connections are T3 and fiber optic.

OC3 and direct 3 metre satellite make a T3 look like a stir-straw.:D

create a thread on the Mac Help/Questions forum... and we'll continue this conversation over there...

Try an OC12 then. Thats the fastest i know of.

When I say "3 metre satellite" I'm talking a whole transponder's worth of bandwidth. That's enough bandwidth to casually use 1024 bit Encryption.:D

I wouldnt know about that. Only a friend told me an OC12 was the best line u can get.
weve taken this thread off topic.

there are current uses of not just oc3 or oc12... but oc 48 and oc192 sonet fiber rings. the number after 'oc' which stands for optical carrier is the number of t3's that it carries. so multiply the bandwidth for a t3, which btw is 28 t1's, by 192 and that is your bandwidth.. very expensive.
t1 = 1.544 Mb/s
t3 = 1.544 x 28
oc192 = t3 x 192
but this configuration uses only one color laser, red. now they are also using systems with 300 different color lasers do increase this from 192 t3's to 300 times that!
flash300 = oc192 x 300
incredible..
just thought i'd share...

Again, this is not the thread for it, but the server is an AMD K6-2 based unit somewhere around 400MHz running LAMP (Linux + Apache + MySQL + PHP4).

I didn't touch it...
despite people's suspicions... I don't go around deleteing random threads... if it's deleted, either you wouldn't miss it or it's blatently offensive/illegal. Off topic/flamewars get locked, not deleted.
search for goCyrus (http://www.macrumors.com/forums/search.php3?action=showresults&searchid=4693) to see his recent posts... it's probably there somewhere...
but remember - users can delete their own threads...
Note... I will _move_ off-topic threads to their proper forums.

The true test of one's character relies on their ability to take criticism, be singled out, and called a fool among their peers. If they stand firm in their belief, and stay true to themselves, they succeed. If they cry, complain, or ask for mercy, they are far worse than the names they were initially called.
This site is about rumors, and in many cases, controversy. If we cant simply ignore the *****'s, then we shouldn't be mature enough to be discussing anything. People are going to get hot-tempered, and everyone can be the fool sometimes. But let's not devote our discussions to how we should behave in discussions. Its trivial.
