[mod note: marketplace rules prevent anyone with fewer than 100 posts from selling merchandise on MacRumors]
Hello everyone and greetings!
I have two macbook pros:
2ghz core duo, 15" matte finish, 1.5gb of ram, 80gb hard drive, 128mb ati
&
2.16ghz core 2 duo, 15" matte, 1gb ram, 120gb hd, and 128 mb ati
I have been using the core duo for 4 months uncomfortably because I have not had enough space. The core duo only has 80gb and my music library is 41gb alone. Logically I want to keep the second newer laptop, but I have no idea how much i could sell the first one for.
How much does it cost to upgrade a hard drive to 120gb?
How hard is it to to make a direct copy of my current HD onto a new HD?
I understand peoples apprehensions in buying expensive equipment. If you are interested please email me. I will email you any and all pictures you want.
If you care to give some advice as to which one I should keep, please share.
You can call me as well to discuss in more detail after we establish contact through emails.
They are not hot/stolen and I have all paperwork for them; including all orginal boxes and packing. You can get my ebay username (liquidpimp101) which has 94.7% good feedback (ive had the account for 4 years, bound to get some negative feedback. Look at my last sales, all ps3's and all the people were very happy with me).
Thanks to all who give me some advice as to what I should do. Thanks to anyone who is interested in purchasing either one.

Something doesn't seem right about this paragraph (scam perhaps? ).
Otherwise I suggest erasing a large portion of that 41Gb of music. C'mon man, there's no need for all of that.

I would keep the second one. You should be able to sell the first one for an alright amount.

Take the extra 512MB from the core duo into the core 2 duo. Use the transfer program in the Application's folder on the core 2 duo to copy all the important files. You could also put one or the other into Target Disk Mode and use a firewire cable to use one of them until an external HD so you can get your work done.
I would suggest checking the price that systems of your age are going for on eBay. The pick a close price and put it in the Marketplace.

So you just accidentally bought another MacBook Pro?
Seems...likely...yeah.
Sorry but it should be a no-brainer really. Everyone will take the second one.

The OP can't do this as his post count is below 100. Otherwise, a good idea though...

No question. Take the:
2.16ghz core 2 duo, 15" matte, 1gb ram, 120gb hd, and 128 mb ati
And like TEG said, just take the 512gb of ram from the other one and put it in the 2.16ghz!

keep the first one, because the second one is rubbish. you can't have it anywhere near you. I'll have to take it away :D
keep the second one, restart from install CD 1, look in the menu for Disk Utility, wipe the HDD, then install OS X. There should be an option somewhere to migrate data from the first computer to the second. Wipe the HDD of the first, then sell to someone.

I know how you feel...my wallet is too full with $50 bills, and my diamond shoes are too tight! ;)
Aside from the shameless pilfering from a "Friends" episode, the sentiment is there!

Thank you Teg and Scarlet Fever, for the information. I will look into the cable and most likely follow your steps. Does this format you have suggested give me a ghost image on my HD onto a new HD? Or is it only going to copy documents and music only? Your help is greatly appreciated.
For anyone who is speculating that this might be a scam, I will take pictures of the box it came in, from the company it come from. I will give a number to their customer service. I will show you my drivers license, I will show you the packing slip. etc. I will show you anything you need to see to understand they are not hot. Like I said, look at my ebay score, its pretty solid especially recently with the sale of 3 ps3's.

Your feedback looks decent other than the fact that you were selling pyramid schemes, but yeah. Why do you have 2 macbook pros anyway? Wouldn't you sell the first before buying the second?
Anyhow keep the 2nd one, it's cooler and faster. You could also keep the 1st and upgrade the HD to a 120 or 160 (I think 160 is about 220$ US around) which is relatively cheap.

Just curious but why can't pics be posted for everyone? Why only after we email you? I'm not saying it's a scam, just asking because I'm curious.

I got a 160gb drive for my Macbook off Newegg for $150, and I'm sure prices have come down since.

Totally a no-brainer here, given the choice of the two. The Core Duo will sell at a reasonable fee, if you can find a buyer who is willing.
And the migration options on OS X are quite simple and comprehensive. In fact, with just a bit of internet searching, you could have found all the answers without raising suspicions.
I know that 41 G's of music is not in itself suspicious- particularly with the capability of loading video files onto your ipod. My question is that it seems like a bad idea to have all of that on your laptop. I duplicate and backup my music onto an external hard drive- no worries this way. And I can then clean up my computer's hard drive for more relavent and necessary data.
I don't personally feel that having "too much music" stored on your laptop is a responsible reason to either dump your current computer for one with a larger HD or to attempt an expensive and very difficult hardware upgrade. Particularly when fast, reliable external HDs are available at more than reasonable rates.
