This caught my attention:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6369185.stm

And made me sad. I've been a big fan of Audioslave. Is this the end? A PR stunt? Will they realise that it was all a misunderstanding over who's cheese it was in the fridge?

The first album was f'in amazing. It's just a shame the 2nd wasn't an improvement!

What about the 3rd?

Haven't heard it, so I can't comment.

I think they grew steadily worse since the first album.

I guessed they might, hence me not hearing the 3rd one!
:)

I loved Soundgarden too!

i'll agree with that. just seemed to be the same sound over and over again to me. nothing stood out.

i don't know if thats because of conflicts within the band, them not taking enough time on the records, them being too close together and not enough of a break between them, or just how they are.

shame that they're splitting, but looks like Chris Cornell has a solo album later this year, and Rage is playing together again so if that goes well i could see a future album from them.

Theyll all return, like the Police, on their tour:

"The Search for More Money"

I don't really like bands that never evolve. It seems like Audioslave wrote all their songs at the same time then spread them across albums.

I would loved to have heard Chris sing RATM songs though!!!

i hope audioslave doesn't get back together, in my opinion rage is way better. it'd be cool to see rage tour again, and i'm also intrigued about morello's upcoming project. i want to go to cochella so bad! if only for rage against the machine and explosions in the sky.

All the rage songs sound alike as well, there is no variety.

"The Search for More Money"Even if that were the case, would that be so bad? I just never got that, the artists aren't necessarily 'selling out' they're just trying to make money. Isn't that what most of us do anyhow? How dare we begrudge them of that? Especially 'cause let's face it, given a chance to do something we love, that allowed for others to adore us, all while making good money? Heck yeah that sounds ideal.

I would loved to have heard Chris sing RATM songs though!!!Ugh. I disagree. I don't think he has that sort of raw passion in him. Don't think he could pull it off all that well.

I second that :) Too bad Cochella is about 10.000 miles away :(

Please, let's not go there... I really beg to differ.

Could not have said it better myself :) Well, yeah: I'd remove "all that well."

Hell yeah. I hated Audioslave... what good is Rage without Zack?

On a more positive note, I hope this opens the way for a reunion of Rage Against the Machine... and not a temporary one, either.

That wouldn't be bad at all...;)

I was really psyched about Audioslave prior to the release of their first record, but everything they've done I've found disappointing. IMO, Rage is the best band to come out of the 90's alternative scene, bar none. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a tour after Coachella.

I like 'Cochise' a lot, but I found the rest of their material to be a bit dull and self indulgent after that.

If only the rest of their material rocked as hard as that song.

That makes two of us!

I like 'Cochise' a lot, <snip>

Just the intro, just the intro... as soon as the "singer" starts wailing, it's over :(

if only for rage against the machine and explosions in the sky.

EITS and Rage for the win.

Rage songs have continuity, and of course they are going to sound alike.. most bands have a generic sound to them.. however, that being said although I don't mind audioslave, their material just sounds too similar for me to really enjoy as much as I do when listening to Rage.

RATM and Audioslave are 2 entirely different bands. To compare them as if Chris just stepped into Zack's shoes is pointless.

It's like comparing Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros, or Neurosis and Tribes of Neurot!

Chris Cornell has one of the best voices in rock!!

A long term RATM reunion is not something I'd look forward too...

I'll miss these guys...definitely a great band and great lyrics. it's a shame it had to end but hey....maybe they'll reunite in 5 years

I agree. There really aren't many like him these days with that kind of real voice.

I do think most of Audioslave's songs sound too similar, and frankly Rage's songs all sounded the same as well (even more so than Audioslave). But, Soundgarden's songs were always different and evolving. It seems to me the constant here is the Rage band members doing the same thing over and over.

I hadn't thought of it like that but I can see where you're coming from!

A Soundgarden reunion would be pretty cool!!!

Sorry. I never liked it, not in Soundgarden, not in Audioslave, not anywhere. To me it sound like someone's grabbing his privates.

I agree, even if favorite audioslave track is Revelations which is on their 3rd album.

Word is Cornell dropped out over song publishing money--i.e. being the singer he wanted more of a cut. Supposed to be the same reason for the Soundgarden fallout.

When I saw Audioslave live, they did do Rage's "Killing In The Name", and while it didn't touch the original, it was pretty cool. Cornell's no Zach De La Rocha and never tried to be.

Greed. Same old story. "Creative Differences" has to be one of the most vacuous phrases ever.

Thank the lord for that. I loved Soundgarden. Audioslave had some good tracks but they weren't the equal of Soundgarden IMHO. Too bad 'ol Chris is greedy, maybe Soundgarden would still be around.

To touch on my earlier post about bands that make a "come-back" tour or album.

The Eagles are an EXCELLENT example of pure greed that has nothing to do with artistic integrity and the furthering of their music.

Don Henley said to the question of when, if ever, the Eagles would get back together:

"When Hell freezes over"

few decades later, they go back on tour, calling it "The Hell Froze Over Tour"

this was nothing more than a grab for more money, pure and simple.

and I would really like to be pointed to a case where it was actual artistic reasoning and not greed that drove a band to re-connect.

few decades later, they go back on tour, calling it "The Hell Froze Over Tour"

...And tens of thousands of people flocked to them with baskets of cash to see them play.

I seriously doubt any of these band "reunions" happen for anything other than $$$$.

It's probably more like "Look, I know we can't stand each other, but if we do a tour we can each clear a couple million..."

Pink Floyd reunited in June 2005 for Live 8, purely for respect for the cause. All proceeds were donated to charity - as was the revenue due to the increase in record sales. They have turned down all the offers to reunite even though they were offered $250 million to do a reunion tour.
