the harddrive in my macbook is making a bit more noise than usual (i can hear it being accessed), so I ran disk utility, and it told me I need to repair the disk. I won't have access to my OS X Install disks for another week, though. Is it ok to wait that long to repair the disk, or should I take it to the Apple Store and see if they can do it there? I'm just worried it's like a ticking time bomb that won't last the week...

this is what disk utility says:

Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Incorrect block count for file gilmore.girls.714.hdtv.xvid.notv.[VTV].avi
(It should be 24004 instead of 24012)
6 %)
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking Extended Attributes file.
p.",0)
Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

thanks in advance

You can wait that long to repair it, just don't use the Mac.

If you have volume structure problems or crosslinked files, its a time bomb. You don't know when, or what data, you will lose, only that you will.

You can repair it if you boot into single user mode by holding down Command-S as the Mac turns on. There are a few instructions that will appear on the screen when you boot into single user mode.
