Does anyone know of a simple way to set up a VNC server on OS X so that the computer can be accessed through an in-browser Java applet? I found a guide here (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20010913200137518), but it seems to be rather out of date.

Go to System Preferences==>Sharing==>Apple Remote Desktop==>Access Privileges==>VNC Users may control screen with password.
Note that if you don't tunnel it via SSH it is very insecure and if you run it from a network the connection may be automatically shut down.

OK, but I still need a way to set up and host a [edit: SSH-enabled] Java VNC client on OS X.

You could start with the source code to Chicken of the VNC (http://cotvnc.cvs.sourceforge.net/cotvnc/), but it is not Java code.

Apparently RealVNC (http://www.realvnc.com/products/enterprise/4.2/getting-started-mac.html) does what I'm looking for, but I haven't tested it yet.

Did you ever try this? Does it work well with a Mac? I've used it on Windows computers before and it works very well there. Especially handy when ports are blocked :D
