View Full Version : MOSR's "concise" projections?

A small exerpt from a very GENERAL thread over at MOSR.
Enjoy this "bastard child" of all possible rumors from every rumor site/discussion forum spanning the past few months!!:D
A small exerpt from their most recent headlining thread:
"With all of the recent rumormongering on the subject of next-generation 64-bit PowerPC 970-based Macs, we thought we'd post a concise projection of what we expect in terms of specifications from the first generation of 970-based PowerMacs."
I'm not necessarilly bashing MOSR, but talk about playing it "safe"...

[Although I do hope a lot of it is true!]

MOSR is on the edge of credibility, regarding current developments. I have been cutting them slack for a while, now. Sure, they get some things right, but they haven't been especially reliable over the last twelve months.
I still visit MOSR every day to check for updates. My continued support is riding on their 970 predictions. I don't expect them to pull through.

How quick off the mark are you!
I've been flicking over to this site all day (its 8.30pm) waiting to see the follow up.
Like many people, I am cautious about this, but it would be a pretty outrageous lie, so call me naiive, but I was inclined to believe their initial report that they viewed Panther.
But all the negativity makes me even more cautious.

Seems everybody is jumping in on a game of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" and hoping they don't end up looking like ... ;)
For machines that people have said are in various states of production  they sure are having some trouble handling this hot potato. Or even seeming like they're staring this rumor in the squarely in the eye. :(

I don't know WHO is running the show at MOSR these days (I don't think it's Ryan) but whoever it is... someone should 1st explain to them that the MOT PPC 7470 is a total fabrication and will NEVER exist.
They are under the crazed impression that a mythical 7470 will bring DDR support to the G4.
The real facts are:
MOT 7457 will bring the 10nm process to the CPU
MOT 7457RM will bring DDR (RapidIO) to the CPU
The probem us... as usual... Mot can't seem to get anything right EVER! The 7457 is WAY over due and from what I've heard the 7457RM has been canned all together.
In short if MOSR doesn't even know these basic facts (hell the docs about were leaked directly from a MOT web site) how can you put faith in anything else?

They and MB are becoming like Fox News, they make up, we decide.

More angular handles, a narrower and smaller overall enclosure, lots of bare metal, and only a hint of transparent plastic to be seen....more on this soon, as we have seen some mind-blowing prototype enclosures on the grapevine recently.
Mind-blowing? That I want to see - but this is basically a rumor round up. Take all the macbidouille stuff and thats about it.
I wish macbidouille would get some enclosure pics like they did last time.

I really can't wait to see a new enclosure. Lordy lord, it's about time! =) Hope they're right on that...

Predictions of productions? Projections of predictions? Predictions of projected products? or just Predictions?
:-)
Regarding the headline: "PowerPC 970 Preductions"....

hmmm... I don't type real good. :)
Oddly, I actually made the same mistake twice. (once in the title, and again in the body). I swear I know how to spell 'predictions'.

Take with salt, I agree.
But if ANY of it's true, Panther is sounding more and more exciting... and the PPC 980 next year could be amazing.

I'm more skeptical about MOSR's predictions than I am about MacBidouille right now. MOSR has really lost almost all its credibility in the past year (the iMacs and "shoo-in" iPod at MWSF come to mind).
That said, since quite a bit of the info MOSR's Powermac 970 prediction comes from various other sources, I consider that a more reliable report than their little "test-drive" of Panther (I honestly don't believe that for a second).
I'm more interested in what MacBidouille, MacWhispers, and (of course) Mac Rumors has to say about the 970 than what MOSR says. It'll be interesting to see how accurate MacBidouille's reports are. I'd really like to see them post some pics of the machine's design (hopefully I'd get to see them before Apple Legal runs in screaming ;) )

The thing is, their sources are different.
MOSR seems to have some sources in the engineering side of Apple (Cupertino). Most of their "predictions" never see the light of day.
MacBidouille seems to have sources in Apple Manufactoring (Cork or Elk Grove Mfg Plant).
(some other site has sources in apple's supply chain).
The apple process goes like this
(Cup) design -> (MFG) EVT -> (MFG)DVT -> Production
we only see production units, yet hear rumors from each step in the process. ie not all designs got to EVT, not all EVTs go to DVT and so on.
plus, not all rumors in each step are accurate. I wouldn't jump on MOSR too much, they just are providing insight into the process a little sooner that the rest of the sites.

This is the best rumor yet (trueornot) the mere idea that icons will have movement is ********* fantastic

MacOSRumors' predictions re the software features are possibly believable. Historically they have been way off on hardware predictions. To this day they keep predicting 4-processor Macs.
My suspicion is that the 970 will debut in a slightly-modified El Capitan. Why?
(a) Apple outsources all production, so any new cases would be spotted quickly.
(b) MacBidouille doesn't mention any new case.
(c) Historically, case changes have been "out of sync" with processor changes. El Capitan (and the gumdrop iMac) appeared in the middle of the G3 era; the previous cases appeared in the middle of the '040 era. Some new cases appeared in the G4 era: the Cube, the Xserve and the LCD iMac.
All of these points have been made many times in other threads, of course.

I don't think MOSR has any sources left. I'll add my 2 cents to the rest who say that MOSR gets all its info from MAcrumors, Appleinsider, Thinksecret etc. I consider MOSR's posts like any other single post on these forums-just another guy's opinion of the rumor based facts

If I remember correctly, after the first wave of 970-first-appearing-in-a-PowerBook rumors came along, MOSR categorically stated that there was no way those rumors were true.
Of course their archives are offline, so I can't verify that, but I'm pretty certain.
Seems like a big backtrack to me, which just might mean something.
