Great.... Superdrive not reading blank dvds anymore!

7 months with my MBP with no major issues at all. Then the hard drive died, now a month later I am experiencing the dreaded issues (http://www.speedlabs.org/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=6&cntnt01returnid=15) with the Matshita (emphasis between the "mat" and "a") UJ-857 superdrive... :rolleyes:

Hmm, I wonder if the latest revisions of this drive, the 6x version in the 15" C2D MBP is any better. :confused:

wow sounds like you got a lemon that took some time to ripen. I have had issues with my drive in MBP reading disks that were slightly less than perfect and now my battery is going funny.

Hmm.... Well from what I can tell this is by no means an isolated incident. However, I would have hoped for an easy solution by now. The 15" MacBook Pro has only been out for what.. like a year now?

Would it be so hard for them (Apple or Matshita) to write updated firmware for the drive? Or at least acknowledge the issue? I still have a few months left of my original warranty and am going to buy the extended soon, so I'm not worried about the money or anything it's more the downtime. Although when I had my hard drive replaced, had the computer not been covered it would have been almost $500! Apple charges $350 for the Seagate Momentus 7200rpm 100GB drive and $135 for labor, oh and tax and such... Outrageous!

I have a backup computer for sure but its not the same, all my files are on this one, I can't take the other with me to school and work etc. blah blah. I'm just getting fussy now.

Isn't there something about three repairs = a free new computer as a replacement? Cause if thats the case I will have the computer repaired for the warped case then take it back for the DVD burner for the third repair. :D
