Don't know if this is "news"... but Amazon is selling 17" for $3169 ($130 saving) and 12" for $1739 ($60 saving)

PowerBook 17" ...

PowerBook 12" ...

Not sure if this is something everyone sees, or if I've been "singled out" (with Amazon its always possible), but I thought I'd point it out.

At first I wasn't sure if I should read anything in to this (is this a "possible imminent EOL of PB due to 970" etc.), but I'm not seeing discounts on CDW or MacWarehouse, so it looks like its just Amazon being "competitive" :D

I thought apple didn't allow resellers to do this...

all of their apple products are discounted. it's really nice if you want a new apple product, trusted source, and no tax.

Their contract with Apple probably says their catalog (in this case the website) can't show a price below Apple's "minimum advertised price", but online resellers often work around this by doing this "we can't show the price until you add to cart" trickery to work around it.

Still, I doubt they'd have done this without Apple's blessing (or perhaps even some co-funding dollars)

They're $1599 for the 12" from Apple now :)

Perhaps this is just their way of clearing the last of the 15" PBs out... but they couldn't put the 12" and 15" within $200 of each other, so the 12" went down too.

Still, we're not complaining, right :D

seems like apple recently did a little discounting of their own...
