I have so many questions:
First why is family guy clips that are .avi somehow iTunes?
Second: what are you watching them with and if it is DVD player, how?
Nice iTunes shot.

:looks more closely:
KaZaA?

omg, so confused, look at the upper right hand corner in the open window... XP logo?

Sorry for the confusion. The snap is from my xp box. My dvd player is playing the Family Guy avi file in file mode. It is not really iTunes but a skin for qcd player.

Heh. :p

I could have uploaded them to my el cheapo Geocities account, renamed them as ".txt" files so Geocities would host them correctly (it's a weird set-up, don't ask), but that would have taken too much time. It's late and I'm lazy like that. Besides, it gets the desktop site more exposure...I think. ;) :D

Thanks much - that desktop is actually from a Korean film called "Wonderful Days" - I want to see it so bad, once it has subtitles. The art is just amazing.

On a side note, we need to discuss what people have in their menubars - I don't know what a lot of stuff is, just by looking at some screenshots - I gotsta get me an education on stuff.

That sign is ont he side of the building. It's downtown in the warehouse district, otherwise known as the "arts district."

I thought about doing a fotohaus ad on it actually, but I've already shot that sign in the past & felt this would be a great alternative image to ad to it. ;)

It depends on the complexity of the image. I use jpg and you'll have to get it under 100k - sometimes it looks great, other times you have to make the image less than half size to get a good image.

all it does is show you the icon of the active app, which is indicated by the name of the app up in the upper left corner. not only that, if the app has an open window, it's easily denoted by the one that doesn't have a transparent titlebar/faded close/minimize/zoom buttons.

i mean, you still have to look at the icon, which is arguably just as much trouble as looking at the text. so all it's doing is saving you the trouble of reading 1 word, that's bold, and always in the exact same place. why would you run an app to avoid reading one word?

It is a theme for OS X that changes it, here is a link to the theme site:

I heard that it was problematic to change the GUI like this with theme changers, but I have not had any problems.

Coz it looks pretty and I like it. Do I need any other reasons?! I'm a bit obsessed with icons, if that explains anything, and this means I can get to see it in its 128 x 128 glory without putting the dock magnification up as far as it will go (coz that looks well crap).

That should be good enough for anyone. Seeing how a GUI isn't necessary and is just there because we like it, anything that a user customizes is mainly there because we like it.:)

that said, if it's your aesthetics, anne, i understand. that's certainly something i appreciate. i am not exactly form over function, but as long as the two aren't classhing, more power to you. i love 128 x 128's too. and big docks do look trashy. even if it's just when you magnify them.

Yeah, its just an aesthetics thing really. i don't run that many highly-powered apps so i don't think its a problem of not helping the functionality of my other apps. :)
One thing I don't get is your comment "a machine that can do many more things than the brain can process as binary code" - are you implying that macs are better at processing information than the human brain? I do hope you're not, as I am an academic psychologist by trade and would not like to get into an argument!!

Any threads with pictures kills a 56ker.

Seriously, broadband only for pics and desktop threads, this would kill slower users.

And 100k is the limit so don't flame him.

No I know it's not SLOs fault that there was a deer on the freeway, since it was 1 am at that time. And the body shop I took it to did an excellent job, you can't even tell anything happened.

The WRX is a great car, but if you can't afford it, the RS is pretty nice as well. I'm saving up to get a pre-2001 RS coupe for my family's second car.

There are a few landscapes, but most are renderings of outerspace or sea creatures. They were the top ten or something like that at digitalblasphemy.com when I went to find some cool desktop patterns.

I'm not sure why either. I wonder if there is a color correction issue....

Ah, sparklers....those are great - use the tripod, have 6 friends run by the open shutter of the camera, spinning their arms and use a fill flash to stop the action at one point, then close the shutter.

Make sure its really dark, lots of fun.
