I have an external drive hooked to my IMac 5. I had an icon on the desktop for it. Yesterday I was woking on Imovie and I wanted to add a file from the external drive to a movie i was doing. I cliecked on the drive's icon and dragged it to the Imovie library. i started to hear hard drive noise for a while. The next time I turned on the computer, the icon for the external drive was no longer there. Can anyone tell me how to find it.

Thanks.

Open Disk Utility. If the drive shows up, attempt to mount it. If that fails, verify the disk. If errors are found, click repair. If repairs fail, your disk has suffered file system damage that Disk Utility cannot fix. Your best bet at this point is to use some sort of data recovery program or just reformat the drive.
