Does anyone have any experience with freelance websites like www.freelance.com, www.freelanceworkexchange.com or any others?

Are they a scam or do they work and your able to pull in some amount of money?

I've never heard of the two you listed, but I've used www.guru.com and www.elance.com before and both are legitimate. The biggest problem with these sorts of sites right now is that developers from 3rd world countries come in and bring the average project prices down by bidding lower than U.S. or U.K. developers would ever be able to go. Guru.com is probably the best and safest one in my opinion.
I've found quite a few good clients on Craigslist. You might want to try a smaller market like that before jumping into the crowded waters of project bidding sites.

i'd agree with stampyhead. also, fyi, i've not heard of the two sites you mentioned. stick with guru.com, it's pretty well known, and trusted. ;)

I just set up the courtesy listing account at eLance, or should I say the free account. You can bid on anything with the free one which kind of makes it useless... I searched on here to see if anyone else has made money off these sites. I'll have to check out Guru.
