I haven't played with this yet, but what about a "Smart Folder" in Finder, and then have that on the desktop?

Just an idea...

I have a smart folder that is very similiar, though not exactly it, I dont think you can say have it just show documents and appliactions and the most recent 10, correct me if im wrong.

Edit: In a smart folder if i set kind to applications, and make another "criteria" (Im not sure what to call them) of kind document, it wants it to be both, so i get nothing is there a way to make it be one of the two?

Well, I don't see an option to limit it to the last 10, but you can set it for the last day or two, or a week or so. You can also restrict to to types of file, where to search - and on and on. Maybe a good feature that can be added to 10.5 before it gets released!
