5.1 channel speakers and imac ??

Is it possible to attach 5.1 channel speakers. There is only one speaker jack on the imac. How can this be done?

You need something like this http://http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave/. I believe griffin are the only ones that make something like this.

Yes, the iMac has optical out, you'll just need a compatible speaker system.

Yeah, if you have a pair of 5.1 analog speakers (with three minijack connectors; i.e. left/right, rear, center/sub), you need the firewave, which supposedly sucks.

You'll need a pair of digital speakers, like the Z 5550, that have optical.

It depends on which 5.1 speakers you have. If you have ones with an optical input, like the Z-5500, then all you need is a simple TOSlink to 3.5mm (or mini-TOSlink) adapter like the one on this page.
