I began listening to them last summer and they are amazing! This band does not get enough publicity for their quality of music.
The Shins (http://www.theshins.com/)
You can also catch them on SNL tonight.

I like the first two albums very much, though I haven't given the third album a good listening to as yet.
On the whole, I think I like Chutes Too Narrow a bit better, if only for "Young Pilgrims." (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/shins/youngpilgrims.html) And the freaking amazing cover art.
"Modern thought can get the best of you ..."

It was the same with me at the start, but after listening to all 3 albums a few times I can't stop.

I am, in fact, a huge Shins fan. I listed Oh, Inverted World as one of my top 5 favorite albums.
New album is great - gets better and better the more I listen to it.

Been listening to The Shins for a looooooong time now (since 2001 - Oh, Inverted World!), and they are by far one of the best bands out there.
Each album has its own character, for sure, but they also all have that "feel" to them, that you know it's them.
Wincing the Night Away (the newest album) is nothing short of amazing. One of the best albums I've had the joy of listening to in the past few years, for sure.
Check out The Format (the newest album, Dog Problems), Belle & Sebastian and Iron & Wine if you really enjoy The Shins. Not completely the same (The Shins are way too "different" to really be compared to other bands), but I think they might be up your alleys.

B&S and I&W are absolutely amazing. Sam Beam's whispery vocals are fantastic, and his cover of "Waiting for Superman" is breathtaking. If you're a B&S fan, you're almost guaranteed to like Camera Obscura (the Scottish version, not the California version).

I'll check them out, for sure. And I know what you mean about Sam's voice. I've been listening to the Iron & Wine | Calexico EP (In The Reins) pretty much all the time. On vinyl.

I heard "Phantom Limb" once and now I'm hooked to The Shins. I went out and bought all their albums.

Smart man/woman :)
May I recommend "New Slang," "Pink Bullets," "Young Pilgrims," "Turn On Me", "Split Needles," "Girl Inform Me", "Know Your Onion!", "A Call To Apathy" (no, wait, they changed the name of that song to "Gone for Good")....actually, hell, I recommend them all. Start with Oh, Inverted World and just keep 'em on repeat.

I listen to them. They're coming to Montreal, but I don't think I'm going. Great band though.

If it's possible for you to make it, I highly recommend it. I saw them at the Hi-Tone in Memphis, TN and it was the best show I've ever seen. "Saint Simon" live is damn-near life changing.

It's probeb;y sold out by now. I know my bro is going.
I'm saving my money to see Bloc Party (I already have the tickets) Tool, John Mayer and The Killers.

My girlfriend's absolutely obsessed with them so I listen to them by default. Can't say it's my style though. Needs more of a trance beat.

I like the Shins well enough. Don't have any of their albums, except for a few songs, but I do support them as they are with our local Sub Pop Records label.
Now I really like Seater-Kinney, The Thermels, Schoolyard Heros, The Divors, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Harvey Danger, and much more.

Does anyone know where I can find TRADE-FRIENDLY live concert torrents from the Shins? None of my usual outlets (eTree and Live Music Archive) are coming through.
I'd love the one from DAR Constitution hall from their recent US tour.
Oh, yeah, I love Chutes Too Narrow. Probably my most played albums by iTunes stats.

So, I completely forgot about this thread, but I have checked out Camera Obscura since. They are SOOO good. Classy, classic, vintage, poppy, brilliant. Thanks for suggesting them to me!

Glad you liked them! I'm a HUGE fan. Make sure you check them out in concert if they ever come your way...they put on a great show last time I saw them.
