"public" "drop box" gone

damnit. I store my recently download files in my drop box (in public) and the entire folder is just GONE.

ideas? spotlight doesnt find much, wtf. I never purposely delete things, I wonder if it's been 'moved' somehow.
 
Right, so the drop box is gone but the 'public' folder is still there, yes?

Have you tried doing a search for an item that was supposed to be in the drop box?
