This isn't too hard. For some strange reason, Apple ships Safari with tabbed browsing disabled by default. You need to go into Preferences and enable it. Once that's done, Command-clicking a link will cause it to open in a new tab. You can switch back and forth between tabs now, like you're used to in IE7 or Firefox for Windows.

Or you can have two safari pages open.
File - New Page (IIRC) or Cmd + N

If you want to switch back and forth between tabs quickly, a Cmd+Shift+(left or right) arrow should do the trick. It should be noted that it won't work if your cursor is inside a text area or text field of some kind, because that key combo typically highlights to the end (or beginning) of a line.

I don't recall ever having to enable tabbed browsing and I tab browse more than anything; I can't live without tabs. ;)
