Hey guys I am shopping for a 250 gig external harddrive priced around $100. Can you all point me in the right direction as far as the best ones? Thanks.

I like Maxtor drives, and despite the fact that they were bought by Seagate (i believe), this should be good. It has a 16MB cache and FW, which will boost your read/write speeds.

i don't have any specifics for you, but my recommendations are to look for Western Digital and Maxtor and stay away from LaCie for reliability.

i have the drive Lovesong linked to and it works great. plug it in and go. no problems.

They make great enclosures.. at least so far they do.. I have three of them. I have one usb2/fw and two usb2/eSATA ones.

I then went to frys and bought a few maxtor 250 GB drives on sale for what I thought was a good price.

This will be more flexible, IMHO, than buying a prefabbed external drive.. this way, when bigger drives come out, you can swap out the drive.
