Similar to the "Post Your <Insert Month Here> Desktop" thread, I want to know what people are listening to! I don't know about you, but I'm always either trying out some new music or try to "rediscover" music that's already in my collection. What better way to find some new music than to appeal to the MacRumors hivemind?!
Anyway, enough pitch, here are three albums I find myself playing almost constantly these days:
Feist - The Reminder
The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
What're you listening to?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you passing judgement on what people listen to? There is room for all tastes in this world.
Anyway, this month I have mostly been listening to Blood Red Shoes, the Tom Waits boxed set, Rough Trade Shops 'Counter Culture '06' compilation, Cold War Kids and, since yesterday Arcade Fire's 'Neon Bible'.

I mean that I find these threads to be commonplace and lack enrichment for me as a reader. Where as for example, I find "march desktops" threads more compelling.
However, you can pick fights if you like.

That's fair - I was hoping for a little more "What's that band?" and "What do you think about album X" kind of conversation, but apparently there isn't much of that :)

This month so far:
Air's new CD turns out to be really good. Amon Tobin's new album is equally awesome. The new NIN has a few hits and a few misses. This week my uk trip-hop fix is supplied by Aim. I've been listening to a fair amount of Ennio Morricone recently, the man was a maestro. Oh, and dubstep, lot's of dubstep (Burial, Kode9 & The Spaceape, Distance, skream)

Yes; I agree that would be valuable. These usually end up with lists of groups many people are sluggish to check out because of the lack of description.

The new Air CD is pretty good; I'd put it just slightly behind Talkie Walkie (which I put behind Moon Safari), but definitely a good album. The first track on Pocket Symphony, however, I'd put up there with some of Air's best work, period.
Who's Amon Tobin?

Yes; I agree that would be valuable. These usually end up with lists of groups many people are sluggish to check out because of the lack of description.
That's fair - I'll gladly describe the albums I mentioned:
Feist has done some work with Broken Social Scene and her solo stuff tends to be fairly simple -- jazzy music on top of her sometimes fun, sometimes whispery vocals. If you've never heard of her before, I recommend starting with her second album, Let It Die, if only for the song "Mushaboom".
The Shins are can be difficult to describe, but I'd put them somewhere around Beach Boys kind of pop music crossed with the Beatles with some indie flare thrown in for good measure.
Modest Mouse can be a bit raucous at times, but have started to mellow some. Johnny Marr (of The Smiths fame) joined for this latest one and his influence can be heard on a few tracks. There's nice mix of somewhat old-style Mouse with some new-school Mouse...all in all, pretty decent.

Who's Amon Tobin?
Amon Tobin is an artist on the Ninja Tune label. He's been around for a while and used to make kind of experimental breaks, these days he's up to.. experimental other stuff (http://myspace.com/tobinamon). Very cool.
Most of Air's stuff is in the shadow of Moon Safari, but I'd say pocket symphony is every bit as good as Talkie Walkie, it grows on you
Hmmm, been buying a lot of music recently. My local music shops have some really good deals at the moment, a lot of CDs are cheaper than online stores and iTunes. Hard to resist! :)
The Fratellis - Costello Music (bought it because heard one of the songs on the iPod advert :p Good stuff )
The Smiths - Meat is Murder and self-titled album (have had these for a long time but only recently rediscovered. Great, great stuff)
R.E.M. - Monster (Lots of great guitar)
Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets (another rediscovered album that I can't stop listening to. The last song reminds me of those long summer days and makes me want to go out running or something :p )
Brian Eno & David Bryne - My life in the Bush of Ghosts
Frank Black - Pistolero (Ahh, best Frank Black album I've listened to so far :) )
Lemon Jelly - Lost Horizons (amazingly weird and trippy, but loving it :p )
Kraftwek - Man Machine & Trans Europe Express. (really getting into Man Machine, I particularly like "The Model".)

Really? I don't know if I'd say this one is better than Good News.... It's good, but I thought [i]Good News...[i] had enough "old-style" Mouse to make the older fans happy and enough "new-style" Mouse to attract some new fans.
Just personal opinion, and this new album definitely grows on you. "Fire it Up" and "Spitting Venom" are *so* good.

Yeah, it's definitely a matter of preference, but I prefer this new one to the old. Well, I guess I should preface that I didn't really their older stuff.. Good News was the first of their albums that I really enjoyed. For those who prefer their "old" sound, there's some of that still on here, but it's mostly "new" - which I like better.
Edit: My faves from the album are Little Motel, Invisible, and Florida.. even from our favorite songs it's clear which Modest Mouse (old vs. new) we each prefer. :p

The Jesus and Mary Chain - 21 Singles
Mazzy Star - Among My Swan, So Tonight That I Might See
Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions - Bavarian Fruit Bread
Emilie Simon - Emilie Simon

I'm kind of iffy on some of it. I do like that they're writing more from guitar riffs again.
15 Step is definitely my fave. "...I won't take my eyes off the ball again / you reel me out then you cut the string". Great stuff.

Um - it's definitely not "the same old Mouse," but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like this album, but Johnny Marr's influence can definitely be heard on a number of the tracks. The more I listen to it, the more I like it, but parts of it leave me nostalgic for the Lonesome Crowded West days.

Um - it's definitely not "the same old Mouse,"
Yeah, wow, I just got done listening to "Missed the Boat." Had to check iTunes to make sure I was still listening to Modest Mouse. Smiley faces, rainbows, and honey started oozing out of my speakers. So far I like "March into the Sea" and "Spitting Venom," but you're right, old Modest Mouse its not. It'll probably take me a few listens to get used to it.

How's the new Bright Eyes? I really liked I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and Lifted, but haven't heard much of their other stuff...

new Depeche Mode,Delerium,D.J.Tiesto but my new favorite is"Madcap Syndrome" they have a simular sound to the 1rst three but the male/female vocal balance and original style lands the punch.

They're rocking my socks right now.
Good choices - try the other 2 Verve Remixed albums as well - they're stunning.
Bent's Intercept is getting a lot of plays. A little more upbeat than their previous stuff but very good.

OK. I've gotta add The Beatles to this list now. I've swapped nearly everything in my former list and finally submersed myself in their music. I've been trying to get into their music for years now, and have finally found the initiative. Sister Vanilla is still on there, as I love the Reid family. So:
S/T (The White Album) - The Beatles
Revolver - The Beatles
Sgt. Pepper's - The Beatles
Abbey Road - The Beatles
Little Pop Rock - Sister Vanilla
I think this'll carry me over for the next few months until The White Stripes' Icky Thump is released. If it drops in June as NME predicts, then my wallet will be a bit anorexic, what with the iPhone and now an album.

I LOVE the Beatles...in fact, you might have just inspired me to do the same: ditch my current listening list and replace with Beatles ad nauseam.

It's worth clarifying the purpose of this thread.
You can post when you have found a new interest in music and want to share your discovery.
Do not post every time your playlist starts the next tune!
Thank you.

The Future Sound of London - The Isness
I purchased this a long time ago, but had a hard time accepting it so I shelved it. It's found its way back into my car for the daily 25 mile drive to work. It's definitely different from their other releases. The addition of the lyrics is the biggest change, but the music doesn't have that Blade Runner-esque/Cyberpunk feel to it, which I really liked. I really enjoyed ISDN and Dead Cities, as well as the singles/remixes of Papa New Guinea and My Kingdom, but this CD is just weird. I like it when artists try new things, but I prefer their previous work.

For anyone who has heard about the new Modest Mouse album "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" i can affirm that it is amazing and would highly recommend you pick it up. It is a lengthy release (about an hour), is excellently paced, and provides much more than i would have even expected from Modest Mouse. It trumps all of their previous releases.
