Where to get sodium?

Anyone know where could purchase some sodium. And YES, this is Na (the one super-reactive to water and moisture), not NaCl (Sodium Chloride), or salt as we came to know it. Is it true you must be a teacher or a have a doctorate or somethig to buy it?
 
Sodium isn't very safe. You can order it through various chemical supply catalogs. They may do a bit of a check on you though, just to make sure you aren't going to hurt yourself.

Curious: Why do you want some sodium?
 
Oh, just some fun, teehee, lol. No, actually was trying to purchase some for my Chemistry class. May I mention I am also a teacher.
 
The legitimate sources either verify who you are by not shipping to residential addresses only to public institutions, or ask you to send copy of credentials and sometimes neccessary licensing or they limit the quantity and purity of the substance.

I just get my stuff shipped to my Uni office, most gets used for school stuff but some is for my hobbies. For some stuff I have to go through the Uni's ordering dept and also get a license but that is the radioactive stuff.
 
Aldrich is where I get all the stuff to make my bombs. Sheesh, if you're a chem student you should know that.

BTW, killing people gets expensive fast.

Well if you are trying to kill people, then it wouldn't hurt to just steal the stuff.😉
Honestly, though try asking your chemistry teacher if he/she knows where to get it. unless of course you actually are trying to make a bomb.

I dont know which country you are in so this may not apply.

Carolina Supplies (Carolina.com) is pretty good in prices quality and quantity. They ship to US and Canada, some restrictions. They ship to non-residential addresses only - well they did last time I ordered stuff last summer.
And yes they carry sodium look under the chem supplies section.

shouldn't there be a proper channel to purchase this stuff through the local school board?

I'd be very surprised if not.
 
If you were/are a teacher, you wouldnt be asking on a Mac Rumors Forum board, would you?

you would ask your peers.

you would ask your principal.

you would ask Google.

you would think first to look for your predecessor's chemistry catalog.

but you asked here, for a highly volatile and controlled metal, it just astounds me that a teacher of any education level would ask here for something like that.
 
I wouldn't carry it around in the rain. Kaboom It would get some attention to throw some in a bucket of water if someone falls asleep in class!

If you read his post you would have realized that he is not a teacher.
