Super fan with iMac

Well it's 21ºc in my room, I go downstairs to let the dogs into the back garden for a midnight wee. Come back upstairs and the iMac sounds like a jet taking off! The thing (compared to how it normally sounds) is roaring. I try to whip out a temperature monitor app but they're all from my PowerBook and don't work! It took a few minutes for it to calm down.

Can this happen from time to time? As a sort of massive cool down? The back wasn't any hotter than normal.

And yes, this is the same machine that magically survived a 5 second power outtage from months back :eek:

I experienced this problem a few times too, and started a thread about it (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=271899) as well. There really was no consensus, but it hasn't done it in quite some time. Probably just some firmware bug that might get fixed one day.
