Hi

I have Parallels running constantly on my Macbook Pro. I like to use Newsbin Pro for downloading binaries. It has Windows XP Pro installed. All the fancy crap is turned off and litterally nothing is running except Newsbin Pro (which is minimized in the taskbar). When Parallels is in this state, I notice it uses around 20% CPU power. Remember, this is when there is nothing going on on in the virtual machine. Just idling.

Its not a problem really - its just when Parallels isnt runng and my CPU idles at about 5%, I get about 4-5degrees cooler on the CPU. The 20% power causes that much of a difference in temperature.

Like I said, its not a problem. Was just wondering if everyones VM does that?

My MBP's cpu idles at between 10-20% with Parallels running, compared to around 5% or less without, so I'd say your experience is pretty typical. Parallels is a fantastic piece of software, but it does guzzle power!

My Parallels idles at around 11% CPU usage. It does make the computer run hotter - that's why I don't run Parallels constantly.
