Hi

I am trying to create a compilation CD of "Tunes that time forgot" for my car. The tracks must be UK chart hits from the 1970s (or at a push, late 60s or early 80s), generally slow and relaxed, probably "easy" and "atmospheric" maybe a little cheesy - but not really lounge, swing, disco, rock or soul. Basically I'm after the kind of stuff that only gets played these days on low-budget late night radio stations - hence the title "Graveyard Shift". Oh, and I can't have more than two songs on the main artist.

I've got 50 minutes so far... but I've run out of inspiration. I want to fill a 1hr 20min CD so I need to find another 30 mins - about another 7 songs.

Here's what I've got so far... hopefully it will give a flavour of what I'm after!

Neil Diamond: Beautiful Noise
Genesis: Follow You Follow Me
Glen Campbell: Rhinestone Cowboy
Sad Café: Every Day Hurts
America: A Horse With No Name
Gerry Rafferty: Baker Street
Electric Light Orchestra: Mr Blue Sky
Minnie Riperton: Lovin' You
Korgis: Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime
Glen Campbell: Wichita Lineman
Nilsson: Everybody's Talkin'
10cc: I'm Not In Love
Fleetwood Mac: Albatross

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

SL

Edit: Oh, and the songs have to be available on iTunes! :) I'm gutted that they don't have Elton's "Song for Guy" or Richard Harris's McArthur Park. :(

With that lot, you've got to have Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel: Make me smile (come up and see me).

Oooh... cheers!

I can't believe I missed Wuthering Heights and Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile) from the list.

Teleromeo - your other suggestions will mainly end up on another early 80s compilation I'll probably do next. :)

I've also thought of a couple more myself (Chicago - If You Leave Me Now; Wings - Live & Let Die), but darn it they aren't on the ITMS!

Erm... any other legal download services out there for us Mac users?

Cheers

perhaps you should install ilike that plugs into iTunes. It suggests similar songs to the ones you play.

Those are some great b-tunes!

I dare not suggest any, as my USness prohibits my UK music knowledge in any detail. :p

Have a look at the tracklisting on the Guilty Pleasures CDs (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guilty-Pleasures-Vol-1-Various-Artists/dp/tracks/B000GIWS3I/ref=dp_tracks_all_1/026-9136719-8724456?ie=UTF8&qid=1173738323&sr=1-2#disc_1)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Here is the final selection. It's a guilty Tour-de-Force!

1. Neil Diamond: Beautiful Noise
2. Nilsson: Everybody's Talkin'
3. Fleetwood Mac: Albatross
4. Glen Campbell: Wichita Lineman
5. Genesis: Follow You Follow Me
6. Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel: Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)
7. Sad Café: Every Day Hurts
8. Jon & Vangelis: I Hear You Now
9. America: A Horse With No Name
10. Chicago: If You Leave Me Now
11. Kate Bush: Wuthering Heights
12. Korgis: Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime
13. Elton John: Song For Guy
14. Gerry Rafferty: Baker Street
15. 10cc: I'm Not In Love
16. Minnie Riperton: Lovin' You
17. Glen Campbell: Rhinestone Cowboy
18. Hollies: The Air That I Breathe
19. Electric Light Orchestra: Mr Blue Sky

To track down the missing tracks (not available on iTunes) I resorted to buying second hand CDs from Amazon.co.uk Marketplace. Their advanced search is actually very good... often the track you want is for sale on some long-forgotten compilation CD for just a few pence!

Good lord, I've been looking for something like iLike for such a long time. Thanks!

Have a look if you have a high match with my music taste and don't hesitate to add me as a your first friend. My nick over there also is teleromeo. For those who think I'm an internetromeo, I ain't, my nick is the title of a flemish kids song ...
