I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but the DVD+RW Alliance is reporting that Apple has installed the dual format drives and might be preparing to introduce dual format DVD burning to it's customers.

It has been well known that Apple used the Sony Multi format drive in the 17" iMacs, but now the DVD+RW Alliance is reporting on it.

Well, MisterMe, jeez, I'm sorry for updating the Macintosh community. I thought it was newsworthy that the DVD+RW community was talking about Apple might add more fuel to the fire about Apple becoming Multi-format.

Basically a couple of companies didn't like the fact that they weren't getting royalties on all the DVD-R drives that Pioneer was selling so they decided to create an entirely new standard and spread FUD about how their standard is supposedly more compatible with consumer DVD players.

They definitely spread the lies pretty thick. I've found from my personal testing that DVD-R disks are the most compatible with the largest number of players (from going through a Best Buy and trying both in every single player out there), and the media is also cheaper.

Those DVD+RW punks will glom onto any manufacturer (like Apple) just to try to hawk their lame products, so they can add a few bucks royalty cost into the price of the drives.

Let's tell them all where they can stick it and continue to support companies (like Apple and Pioneer) that use the DVD-R format. It works great and the media is cheap.
