So it arrived yesterday, a day early so I was most surprised.

All working like a dream, I ran a software update and have installed iWork and Adium.

What else is worth downloading?

Also how can I resize photos? Then I'll post some of my new baby!

It's a 2Ghz CD2, 120gb HD and 1gb RAM.

You can resize photos when exporting them out of iPhoto.

Yep, iPhoto's great for resizing photo's. If you're going to post your photo's online, try using iWeb to create a website for them. Work's really well.

As for software, everyone's going to have their opinions on what to use. To be honest, one of the reason's I've liked my Mac is due to the fact that you don't really need any to go download any software right away - everything's already there for you.

I had a quick go on iWeb last night and published a couple of photos online, can't believe how easy it is.

The other thing that struck me was connecting to my wireless network, my PC took two days before it worked properly on there I had to install Cd software then download stuff and play about with the router.

The MacBook simply asked for my password and then worked, brilliant.

I'm gonna have a good old play around this weekend with all the other stuff and iWork too, which I've never used.

Also is there an easy way to get all my jpegs into iPhoto, ive got tonnes that I've transferred across from my pc and they're all grouped together with video files which won't go into iPhoto.

Good question. I know it's pretty easy, but unfortunately I'm stuck on my windows machine at work. (Yes, I know I should be doing work...)

Couple of different ways off the top of my head...

I would imagine you could sort by file type (.jpg). If you have all your photos and videos in one folder, open that folder and then try sorting. There should be an option in the top Finder menus (the menu bar at the top of the page.)

If you have your jpg photos stored in lots of different folders, you could try creating a "smart folder." This is a little more advanced, but pretty easy. The Finder menu will allow you to create a new smart folder on your desktop. The folder will look different (purple with a little widget in it). When you open that folder, you can basically create a query to that will have the folder only display certain items. For example, you can have the folder display new files that were created within the past week. In your case, you could have the folder display any files with a .jpg extension that are located in certain folders. You can then click and drag those items directly into iPhoto. The smart folder doesn't actually contain the items it displays, it simply shows you the results of your query. Like I said, I little more advanced, but really user friendly once you wrap your head around the concept.

I'm sure there is a really easy solution - wish I had my Mac with me.

I've got all my photos in about 100 different folders and there's a mix of vids and pics in each one.

So that way ^^^ looks like the way to go, I'll give it a try later. Cheers fella.

A program called Xslimmer. I think it's $12.00 but well worth it and you get free updates for life. If you have a universal binary program just drop it in the window and click on slim. It removes old powerpc code that you don't need and any additional languages from the program. That makes your program start faster, use less ram and you get back hard drive space. Just my two cents.

like 1Twenty said everyone has their own software they like. Me coming from a PC user I have certain apps I like the best:

VLC Player - used it on my 700m forever and never had a problem. So I downloaded on my MB and still love it. Great program.

Adium - I use AIM all the time (college kid) so when I heard Adium was a great program I downloaded it and it truly is the best instant messenger program I used. It is very customizable and I really do like that.

Hope this helps and you made a GREAT move on over to Mac. I realized that within the first 5 minutes of using it.

Man that program is neat...i had never heard of it before, but it seems pretty useful. I still like the dock though, but now I don't really need track that MASSIVE distance...

I got my MacBook about 4 weeks ago. Congrats to you on yours! My experience has been nothing but positive, I'm so glad I made the move.

Some of the apps I have are FireFox, Toast 8, RealPlayer (lightyears better than on Windows, I wasn't too keen on installing RP but it's been great), and Yasu for maintenence stuff. I haven't tried about with Quicksilver, I don't mind the dock at all.

It's amazing how many stock applications are included, you really don't need to get anything else unless it's very specific.

congrats on the mac book. i just got mine last tuesday. it arrived a day early too. i have the middle one 80gb with 2gb ram. i am loving it.
