View Full Version : Win9x in Parallels - Can you change color depth?

I know this is a strange question, but I am desperately trying to get my wife off of a Windows box. However, some of the programs (mostly games) that she insists on running require Win9x (no version of NT or XP will work) and some even require 256 color mode. Win9x allows her to easily switch resolutions and color depth at will without restarting, and I know she won't accept anything more complicated. If I install Win9x under Parallels, can I still change screen resolution and color depth without rebooting the VM or the Mac? Does the VM screen resolution and color depth have any relationship to the Mac's screen resolution and color depth? What are the limitations? I seem to recall that swithing worked well in VirtualPC. Also, I also understand that Coherence does not work on Win9x; is that correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, although unrelated, can she continue to use Outlook Express to get her email? She is used to that, and there are really no good tools for converting her vast email archive to Mac Mail (I did it once for myself, but it was NOT fun).

Thanks for that. I may just get a mini and give it a try.
