Hi guys i have a mate in sydeny australia who has offerd me an old I mac supposeldy g4 400mhz 128 ram 6.5 gig drive cd rom etc

he states that theres osx on it

my question is can old I macs 1 run osx can they come with g4s and is he having me on....

Just checking this out as if its legit then id like to buy it off him as a kind of take apart and put back together sort of thing just see how they were bulit etc ...

heres the specs for it

Processor: 400MHz G3

System Bus: 100MHz

L2 Cache: 512KB

RAM: 128MB PC100

Hard Drive: 6.5GB

CD Drive: 24x Slot-Loading CD-ROM

It should be able to run OS X just fine. You'll want to upgrade the ram to at least 256 MB, though.

thanx dricci how easy is it to update these old boxes ive just bought the new i mac and i know that it aint easy upgrading memory on them ie filling in the second slot...\

The specs you gave say G3, yet you say can it have G4...

It was the easiest installation I've ever done. My iMac 400 runs OSX just fine. Max out the ram! Sorry, I don't know the max, I added 256 and it works great.

my advice would be to max everything out when you do it the first time. my dad has one of those blue imacs and i used to go in n out of there upgrading it for him. i hate opening those ol imacs up, they're such a pain, especially after going in there working on it, then forgeting something after it's closed up and pull it all aprt again...... blah
