View Full Version : No Volume control on standard PC 104 keys keyboard??

I bought a standard Cherry G80-3000 PC keyboard with no extra function keys,I can't find any key can control the volume! Any help plz?:) :)

Have you tried pressing F3, F4 or F5? They should work as volume control, but I don't have an external keyboard to test it though.

some windows keyboards have specific volume control buttons on them and there is software to install...you might have to raise and lower the volume manually...oh the horror :D

oh the horror is a lame answer... unfortunately, I'm in the same situation and can't provide a better answer :D . Does any mac guru out there know a simple fix to a silly problem. Can't we assign function keys or some other combination to control system volume (up and down) ? Help !

I believe you may be able to right an AppleScript application that can help you. I'll look further into this.

Alternatively the pro version of Sizzling Keys can help you.

Thanks. Sizzling Keys did the trick. I tried the free version which is excellent and ended up buying the pro version for $5. What a deal! Thanks so much for your help...I've looked for something like this for days!

ControllerMate (http://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate/) lets you map whatever keys you want to whatever function, and can do it at a hardware level.

I use ControllerMate to put volume and screen brightness buttons on my non-apple keyboard (A Kinesis Professional QD). It works a treat. The only problem is that you need to duplicate your mapping profile across all users.

Oo... tell me, could that be used to move around keys like the @ and # to where they are on a typical Windows keyboard? That'd make things much easier for some of my touch-typing staff who want to use the Apple keyboard but find the layout a bit odd.

I think you could quite easily do this. It can do basically anything you want with the input of any HID. A lot of people use it to map keyboard presses and sequences to joysticks for use in games...but your use sounds like it would be a snap. You can download and try it for nothing....and it costs $15 by Paypal if you like it.

I just purchased sizzling keys for this very purpose, to control system volume using a windows keyboard. For some reason though, it's not working. The shortcut is 'shift + up arrow' right? or am I doing something wrong?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
