I've had an iBook G4 (1.07 GHz 12 in) for two years. Lately my iBook would suddenly shut down without warning. Here are things I've noticed so far:
1. Each time it did that, the iBook was not plugged in;
2. The battery was at 30-45%;
3. If the internet connection was not on, at reboot there would be an error message saying that the clock had been set to March 24, 2001;
4. When I tried to reboot it without plugging in, it started to reboot, then died without having finished rebooting. I pressed the button on the battery, there was nothing. But after I plugged it in for about a minute and pressed the button again, two lights went on.
So the questions are:
1. Do I need a new battery? My battery was slightly less than 2 years old.
2. I read an article about "resetting power management unit." would that work? Can I reset it without erasing everything on my computer? If that is the problem, then even if I get a new battery, the problem would still persist, wouldn't it?
3. Are there other problems that can cause these symptoms?
Please help...
Thank you very much!🙂
