Well, WWDC is coming up here in a couple weeks, and rumors are pointing to a new Power Mac. Now what they call it ( if its even coming out that is ) is also still unknown. Here is my rendition of it. Tell me what you think, and make one of your own!

So? People are just playing around here. Its not like the official machine that will be sold. Plus it looks sweet.

Anyone remember this thing.
'twas very nice. I wouldn't be heartbroken at all if it took some cues from the Xserve.

Off topic, who here really likes Lian Lis cases? I dont think they look stylish or beautiful at all, just like another PC case.

No, this picture is at least a year old... Instead of this (IMHO) beautiful clean design, we got MDD.
AI says the front is aluminum but the sides are "graphite", and that there are "thinner handles"; MacWhispers says the case is substantially all plastic.
How about if the handles, instead of sticking up or out, were sort of "scooped out"? Or maybe they would look like the nonfunctional rear spoilers that nearly all cars seem to have these days :-P

Very industrial looking.
Apple will have rounded edges. Pull-out handles (like the cube) would be nice. I'm sure it will be minimalistic....

Nice e-coli, very nice. I know that's an older image, but with all the rumors that it will still have handles (akbeit redesigned ones) where would they go? Damn, I can't wait for WWDC or whenever the hell these suckers are released.

I created a version of it around the same time and called it the xMac.

Paint it flower-power color and add a free coffee cup holder :D
Anyway, how about some lighting around the CD drives and other important parts, maby a ambient light sensor like in the pbg4.

My personal daydream: a design that allows the PM to be rackmountable right out of the box. Like an Xserve but 4-6 rack units high. Maybe integrate the rack ears into the new lower profile handles.

lol. Wish I could take credit for the design. I think the original was done by eyelikeart or ensignparis a loooooong time ago.
when the G5 *finally* comes, it will be like the second coming of you_know_who. Seems like we've been waiting a Biblically long time.
But if it looks like the pic, I'll be all smiles. :D

The inspiration for this design was from the following quote from the AI story:
The front of machine is flourished by this mesh metallic surface...

I made it myself... ;) :p

I like some of the ideas, but they are beginning to look like the custom/mod cases that you can get at tigerdirect or xtechnologies or outpost. There needs to be a bit more snaz and pizazz to them and then will Apple legal come after you. :)

Let us not forget the processor.
The XServe look of the PowerMac above is great. I wonder if the body will be transparent like the Cube & G3 iMacs. The mono speaker should be dumped once and for all; after all, Apple has done this to the G4 iMac already. I also hope that noise is minimized with a fan-less design but the quad hard-drive design of current Powermacs does not permit such an option. Perhaps now that IDE drives have the capacity for tones of data and work well with the latest FireWire standard it is time to start using 2.5 inch, serial ATA drives. For bigger drives, and plenty of bays, you can always buy an XServe and/or its RAID unit.

Sorry for the off-topic reply everyone, but can someone click on the flash link in mystixman's post (the thread-starter), make sure it opens in a new window, minimise the window and wait a long time.
When the flash finally loads does it display on your screen over the current window?
This could be a major bug I've discovered, or my machines screwed.

Can't you see we are designing a PPC970 Mac here?!
benixau
Jun 19, 2003, 05:25 AM
if its great expect it to be dictator like:
It will be a 3d image of SJs head with 2x Slot loads in the mouth, an apple logo on the forehead and front mounted USB port and FW400 (maybe 800) port in the nostrils. Eyes are ambient light sensors for Apple LCDs only and the power button is voice activated: "You are god"
now seroiusly - has apple ever truly let us down? i know about the 'puck' but really - mostly i say - no.

If I was ever to dream of a Microsoft box, I know in advance, that it would be a nightmare!

What would be the benefit of rackmounting it? Maybe 1% of the users would need a workstation that is rackmountable and for those people there are always solutions from 3rd party companies.
