View Full Version : aluminum G4 1.67 HD 128gb limit question-Intech Hi-Cap

Have low-res Aluminum G4 1.67 (2700 DDR) with a 100gb HD. Have a Seagate 160 to put in. Other than Intech's Hi-Cap, is there any other way around the 128gb limit? When I formatted the drive via firewire, it popped up 128gb.

IF, the Intech solution is the only game, does it have to be done as a partition? Their recommended scheme is 127.99gb/32gb.

This is for an internal solution. The current internal drive will go into a firewire case.

Any words of wisdom? Thanks in advance.

That partition scheme looks okay to me. Put OSX on the small and files on the big.

partitioning will work, but I've had trouble in the past with the smaller of the two not being recognized after a few reboot cycles if there is no system it. So yeah, just install the system on the smaller partition and you should be fine.

do I have to partition? I guess another way to ask it is, will the hi-cap software let it recognize the entire drive without partitioning?

I've never used the Intech software. But it's been on the market for many years so it probably works fine.

I've never used it mainly becasue Intech also tells you to partition, as you mentioned. Therefore I've never seen the point of the software.

You are mistaken, a PB 1.67 will surely support drives >128 without partitioning.

My guess is you tried to format with an older firewire bridge, which does not support 128+

Come to think of it, RGunner is right. I believe that the +128 GB drive problem was fixed circa 900 MHz for all PPC.
