I have been working on a project, called CastCluster, to use with my Apple TV. It currently can turn individual videos, user videos, and user favorites from YouTube into Apple TV friendly podcasts feeds... they update when YouTube does. It can also add Google Videos or files/dirs from your local disk to that same podcast feed...

the google project is here: castcluster - Google Code (http://code.google.com/p/castcluster/)

and the blog is here: CastCluster (http://castcluster.blogspot.com/)

It has been downloaded a few times, but I haven't heard from anyone... so for all I know, it only works for me... but it's been a great source of fresh and FREE content for me.

feedback and support requests welcome.

I think it is pretty funny how some many people are doing things like this with :apple:tv. Just nuts. I don't really buy something like that just to get it home and see if I can mess it up...

I can see where you are coming from, but you appear to be misunderstanding this tool. It's merely a tool that creates takes Youtubes & other videos, transcodes them to mpeg-4, and creates an updating RSS feed.

From there it can be treated just like any other podcast subscription: Subscribe to it with iTunes, and if you want, have iTunes sync those mpeg-4 video to your :apple:TV. Pretty cool project imho.

I don't understand what you're talking about... this is not a "hack" or a "mod"... it just turns these videos into podcasts that are Apple TV friendly......

Thanks Mr. A.... you get it :)

I don't have an AppleTV (and don't really plan on buying one for a while - I don't have a TV >_>) but I was wondering if you could do this for Front Row? I'd love to be able to watch AllUC.org through FR...

It should work anywhere you can view podcasts. So it should work for you right now... unless I'm misunderstanding your question..

In case anyone is actually following this.. I've recently made it much easier to use CastCluster... and it now does a much better job of maintaining video quality on converted videos. details in the blog http://castcluster.blogspot.com/

feedback and support requests welcome.I just tried to install it and I must say your instructions SUCK. You do NOT TELL US HOW TO DO IT AT ALL. Instead you assume the reader is a nerd and skip key details of how to do it assuming anyone can understand your lingo.

"run the castcluster.sh script on OS X"

What the hell is that supposed to mean? You fail to explain how to "run" it at all.

well, you are using the instructions for nerds... the easy instructions are to use the Web Start launcher... just use this link:

http://castclusterjnlp.googlecode.com/files/launch.jnlp

That Web Start link should just work for you if you're on a mac...

there is also a video tutorial...

http://one.revver.com/watch/235029

besides that... I *AM* a nerd... I'm a software developer not a documentation writer for end users... If there is something that could be more clear or better worded.. I'd love to make it easier for people...

Is there some particular reason you skipped down to the more complex instructions instead of trying the first set of directions?

Woah. There is absolutely NO need for that kind of rudeness.

Seriously, take a break from the computer or something. There is no need to write at people like that.

Thanks Allotriophagy, I was a little taken aback myself.

I have added a couple notes to the installation direction page, to hopefully avoid this confusion in the future... however, as I said, I'm just a nerd.. and not the wordy articulate kind.

I've wasted too many hours on Youtube following related videos and subscriber favourites!

I'm at work now but I will check this out later when I get home. :)

And... yeah, that was really rude.
