yesterday, the team summary page on EOC was amazing! 9 people in the red (1.6k+), and 19 people above 1000ppd. guessing part was the PS3 (@#$^! xbox 360, no client...) and part was the stats server/crash thing catching up. still was cool to see.
time to start lurking on ebay for a PS3 i guess...:o

:p I had to pull a screen grab during the 4 second window when my ppd hit <2200. The next points adjustment will drive me down to @1500-1600ppd. Considering where I was living pre-PS3, I'm happy there.

ugh - I had a brief moment during a two week period where I had about 30 systems running fullspeed. Got up to the top 10 or 15, I forget exactly this was a couple of years ago.
Now I have gotten a system I can run it on again and have managed to crack top 200 :(
Oh, well, #193 is better than not folding at all.

crank it up, indeed.
of note is the difference moving from single core CLI software to SMP makes on a dual core/cpu machine. gets more work units done, and raised my PPD a bit. of course adding a macpro to the pile probably helped a bit also. :)
now if i can get someone to trade me a ps3 for my non-folding xbox 360...
just trying to stay ahead of you ps3'ers until i join you ps3'ers!
lets go catch silentpcreview. :apple:

He, that would mean you will be overtaking me somewhere this year! We can't have that!! Thank god they replaced a faulty motherboard at work of my C2D, so it's stable now and running 24/7 :p Maybe I leave my G5 cranking a bit more, in other words: I'm back....
P.s. When are they going to bring out folding for the Wii?!?! That will serious kick some PS3! :D

It's the 2.66 version of the Mac Pro with 2 gigs of Ram. The SMP client can complete a work unit in about 20 hours, with the typical score being about 1,440 per WU. And, yes, :D

I tried getting clients on my Macs but just can't get them to work. So my iMac is basically always running the F@H client for our team :) already in the top 100! Great thing is it doesn't detract from computer usage since it cuts off when I'm doing heavy work. If only I could get it working on my PowerBook :o it just sits there in permanent sleep mode ever since I graduated.

Look out with folding on laptops, they get pretty hot and drain the battery fast. I don't fold anymore on my PB. Why doesn't a folding app work on your other Macs? Only thing you'll have to do is download the app, install it and answer a couple of questions.

I don't think Dred ever went beyond position 30 or 40. It's just sort of a running joke, since his sig is something about daring people to join and try to catch him. Lots of people took him up on it and proceeded to blow by him in the standings.
So we taunt him with the irony, but he's one of the most dedicated team members and responsible for a lot of the points we currently have in addition to several of our points leaders. I reached the lofty point of number 9 and used to have a high daily average, but have since lost most of the machines myself and a friend were folding with. If not for Dred, I never would have started.

sweet! and great job... MacPro stats info from a different thread;
stats for folding i pulled from the 'FAHLog.txt' file. it's taking about 11.5 minutes to complete a percent with no others apps running, not using the system. so unless i am nuts, 11.5 * 100 / 60 = 19.2 hours to complete a work unit. that's really freaking fast. for comparison i pulled stats off a couple other systems. 1.66 CD mini, 46 minutes per percent. 2.0 C2D mini, 21 minutes per percent. 2.66 E6700 C2D peecee, 16 minutes per percent.
the xp box tends to average around 1550-1600 points per day depending on the work unit. running the math on the MacPro, 1760 points (SMP unit) / 19.2 hours to complete = 91.67 points per hour * 24 hours = 2200 points per day on average. while showing 30% cpu idle. amazing.
an amazing machine, and mine is the old version.
hoping for several more months of cold weather here in central IL (USA). when it gets warm, my SMP geek heaters will be going off. :( cheaper than natural gas, and gets me more points!
best of luck folding to all.

go with SMP only if u can leave the machine on and complete units in 3-4 days. you can with your new machine if you have it on 24/7 all the time. if you forget and put it to sleep overnight or something you may be out of luck and lose out on points (if points are your goal)
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html
look at GRO-SMP deadlines. u get more points but less time to complete
otherwise download the FAH6 beta, you can specify large/small workunits, memory dedication, and get workunits that take longer to complete
oh and nice 45nm MBP! me = jealous

Well being that it's a laptop, I'm worried about frying it. So 24/7 is out of my comfort zone. The FAH6 beta seems to only be available for Windows (at least on the downloads page it does). Am I wrong about this?

...the temps of my processors was averaging 130-150 degrees.
so, about ambient for phoenix. i fail to see the problem...:p
if it's really something you want to do (and we need your help!), download smc FanControl 2.1.2 and bump up the cpu fans a couple hundred rpm. you can't hear the difference, and it will drop the temps by several degrees. i've been folding 24x7 over the last 6 months on a first gen MP here without any issues for what it's worth.
best of luck.

yeah, i use it. works great. on the MP i am using non apple memory pulled from a peecee server (no fin heatsinks) so just wanted to move a bit more air. even without fancontrol, i never saw any temps that worried me. the MP will take care of itself, that is if it's hot, it ramps up. the thermal limits on most of the components in there is well above 90c, so not much to worry about.
where i find fancontrol the most useful is on remote systems. i can create profiles that fit the setup. 'default' for customer use, 'folding' for overnight use, and 'max' to blow some dust out of the system once a month. all with the click of a mouse and for (donation made) free! sweet. :D
