Epic will release a new update for Geras of War soon.

he next title update for Gears of War is currently going through the certification process. We'll have more detail about the update next week but I can tell you that in addition to fixing a whole bunch of glitches, and providing 720p for VGA users running at 1280x1024, it will contain a brand new multiplayer gametype called Annex.

Some folks who got to play it a few weeks ago said they think it is our best multiplayer gametype yet but I'll leave it for you fans to decide what you think for yourself when it shows up soon on Xbox Live. More details next week.

Epic clarified it will be free.

Update on the patch.

Last week, Epic announced that a title update was coming soon as it was going through the certification process. Additionally, they revealed that the update will include a brand new multiplayer gametype called Annex.

Today, an update to the Gears of War web site that was meant to go live next week has revealed that the next title update for the game will arrive next monday. Additionaly, the leak has revealed what Annex is all about.

Update

We have just received word from Microsoft regarding this leak. A Microsoft spokesperson told us:

Earlier this afternoon, we prematurely posted news on the upcoming title update for “Gears of War,” which will contain an exciting new multiplayer mode called “Annex.” While we can confirm that the information provided about “Annex” is correct, the release date of April 9 is not final and remains TBD.

I can't wait to give the new content a workout over live. Annex sounds like it might be quite fun. :)

And some bad news about the new maps:

We already released two (maps) and we have four more maps that we've built. We've been wanting to give them but actually Microsoft has been pushing back on us. They're trying to build this business model around selling additonal content for games and that's a valid idea, but we would definitely like to release more stuff for free, and we haven't been able to do so yet.

That really sucks!

I really look down on companies that do this, which sadly are now most of them, you can't expect any one to release anything (not even one map or a friggin texture) for free, as if the 60$ we pay for the game aren't enough, if a simple texture is worth 5$ (i'm talking about the horse armor add on for Oblivion just to put an example) then games should be worth thousands of dollars :o

And then corporations complain of software piracy!

But worse than that I think are the idiots who actually pay for the content.

Sorry for jumping in but I totally see your point but then again we are talking about M$. But I have to admit... this is great PR/Spin on M$'s front. That's the Left Hand slapping the consumer and saying, "I don't want to but my brain is making me slap you..." Customer being slapped, "Oh O.K. I won't blame you Left Hand but I am sure angry with your Brain."

Good news :D.

Mark Rein response:
Epic thinks the way to maximize the return on Gears of War is to give the maps away for free and Microsoft thinks the way to maximize the return on Gears of War is to sell the maps. So what we’ve agreed to do is to put these maps on sale at a reasonable price then make them free a few months later. They did this with the original Halo2 map pack and it was a huge success. Lots of people bought the maps and lots of people downloaded them when they became free. That’s what is going to happen and it seems like a fair compromise for both companies and a win-win for Gears players.

I couldn't weapons slide. So that's good for most (I like that "glitch" and I don't mind it when the other team uses it). Others in-game were saying how other glitches had been fixed (specifically the chainsaw) so that is good. I don't know how to do any of those but I hate when I get killed that way.

Annex is interesting. Only played it for about 20 minutes but it looked exciting. More frustrating, though, if the teams are unfair than in Warzone/Execution because you die maybe 30-40 times instead of just 10 times.

You cling to everything now when you run. That sucks. Not sure why they changed it either, but I wouldn't be running anywhere now.

The clinging thing was supposed to get better, not worse....and it's a lot worse now. Annex reminds me of Halo 2; random time respawning in random places and dieing a lot if you're outnumbered. That's something I didn't like about Halo 2 and I doubt I'll ever play it on GoW unless we have 8 people that will stick around for awhile......then it could be fun.

Edit:
"Adjusted Roadie Run: Reduced frequency of accidently grabbing cover while running" ; which apparently they did the opposite to :)

The boomshot is definitely better now. It used to be that you either blew someone up or you shot right through them and nothing happened. Now you can do some damage and down them if you don't hit them directly.

This topic probably has been done to death... but I want bots. I have broadbad, and I can afford to get Live Gold, I just don't want to. Human players are a lot more fun, sure, but a) there are a lot of immature annoying ones, and b) I want to be able to just leave a match if I want. If I do this in a real game, I make people mad, which is understandable. I think I'd have a lot more fun with an intelligent bot team. This could also pad numbers for those smaller games.
