I just got my first Mac, an iBook G3, 800mhz,.

I love it thus far, but there is one thing... the heat is pretty suprising. It's not exactly "Oh crap!" but it's definatly warmer then my PC laptops..

Is this normal? Should I be worried?

My old iBook G4 was ridiculously warm too. And the G3's upper case is magnesium, a metal, so it should conduct heat to your hands better than the plastic in a G4.

Where are you using your laptop? On a soft surface where it could block the vents like a pillow or bed? Or a hard surface like a table? If you are using it on a soft surface after sometime it might overheat.

Congrats on the purchase of your first Mac KurtangleTN! :)

Like dartzorichalcos stated, depending on where you use your iBook will help regulate how warm it gets. Try using Temperature Monitor (google it to download it) to see how warm it is actually getting. :)

Thanks everyone!

I downloaded the tempature monitor and it's running at 50C.. That seems pretty high..

I mostly use it on my lap, so i'll try to use it more on my desk when I get an airport card
