Version tracking development app for Mac?

I'm looking for a well done version tracking application similiar to Visual SourceSafe.

Versioning system, similiar to sourcesafe. Free, and opensource.

The one main difference is that cvs does not use locking, it merges text files that are modified by two or more developers at the same time.

You have to be a little bit savvy to download, install and administer it, much like Apache or MySql.

It is the "standard" versioning system, and there are tons of users and newsgroups.
