This has probably been done before, but I just wanted to see what everyone's favorite avatar is, currently used by any Mac Rumors member.

I'd like to take the chance and vote for mmmdreg (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=4653). Darn, your avatar is cool!

Any other votes?

:)

(I could only wish to be at 500 posts. Still some 380 to go...)

Well, of course...mine is! Matrix rockz! :D
But seriously, I like the one Mr. Anderson (or as he was known at the time, dukestreet) had, it was like an x-ray of a person and you could see the lungs and heart moving as he/she breathed, very cool!

I did rather like this one I made quite a while back, perfect for a 'tar on a Mac site I thought...

Wow, never saw that. But sure sounds cool! Although I like the one he (Mr. Anserson) has right now, too. There are some excellent avatars floating around here at the Mac Rumors Forums.

I've stated before that I really love trebblekicked' Chaplin tar, so that would be my current animated favorite, the former dukestreet had some great ones in the past though.

I'm a little biased but I've always liked medea's choice of avatars.

say, thanks. we'll have to start a rena fan club, as just about every single one on the web sucks. the only decent one is hosted by geocities with probably like a 50 MB/month bandwidth limitation. i swear, like 3 times i have been browsing and it tells me the site has exceeded its bandwidth limitation for the month.

i liked my old one better too, i think it did a much better job of expressing that whole depression/blues than this one does of expressing that whole self-satisfied grin--a woman pleased with her beauty. it's an interesting idea, so very dangerous, in many ways. i picked it more because it's different than because i thought it was better :)

i think one of my all-time favorite's was Jello's of Daniel Day Lewis from Gangs of New York. there was something so classic about the guy dressed up all aristocratic and pointing at you. love the new one though, didn't Rower use that for awhile some time back?

but i am sticking with that one as my favorite. can you post it in here jello?

there is this site (that apears to be down now?!) that has quicktime clips of a lot of his shorts. i'll give you the link in case it ever reopens: http://silent-stars.com/Slapstick/home.html

Another site (all .avi, though) (http://www.reelclassics.com/Actors/Chaplin/chaplin.htm)

you know it's a shame when you have to be the first to mention your own avatar. :p

jello, i guess that must have been it. is this the first time you have used the underwear thing though? i could have sworn i had memories of that scene from before i finally saw the movie (which is splendid, i never can get over owen wilson, even in that stupid airplane rescue movie he did, he was still so cool.

jelloshotsrule
Jun 13, 2003, 05:40 PM
i had the underwear one up once before, yeah...

owen rules. behind enemy lines was funny, because he's just so non-characteristic of a pilot. the great thing about him is that he always seems to be playing himself... hah. either bad acting or brilliant acting, depending on who you are. :)

zoolander rules, but it really kicks it up a notch once owen and ben team up... the initial scenes of them at owen's pad. awesome.

shadowfax
Jun 13, 2003, 05:45 PM
you need to make a 'tar of owen from when he is all classed out in Meet the Parents. that was just so classic how he plays that turned-around classy nouveau riche millionaire who's into all the finer arts. it totally didn't fit him at all, but at the same time he played it perfectly. ah, good times...

I worked, on and off, on the avatar that I originally planned to use for a couple of weeks but couldn't get it anywhere near the filesize requirement without losing all the image quality. It was based on a mini-clip of the James Bond Q character. So I went with Plan B, and I'm perfectly happy. And I hope I'm not causing any dizzyness.

Do you have Keaton's The General on dvd? a shot of Buster Keaton on the front of the train would be incredible to use.

I'm not sure about trebblekicked but I rip a DVD using OSeX, convert to an AVI wusing Mac to Divx, then Jasc Animation shop can read .avi files which is then resized, compressed into a .gif file.

But I don't have any plans on doing so.

Doctor Q
Jun 18, 2003, 11:47 PM
Good guesses, but not quite right. It's hard-of-hearing little old lady Emily Latella, one of Gilda Radner's characters from SNL (as was Rosanne Rosannadanna). Emily Latella would give a guest editorial on "Weekend Update", where she would complain about a news item she clearly misunderstood. Example: "What's all this fuss about violins on television? For Heaven's sake, if anything there ought to be more violins on television!"

In other episodes, she complained about "Busting" School Children, "Canker" Research, "Celery" Caps, Endangered "Feces", the "Eagle" Rights Amendment, Making Puerto Rico a "Steak", Presidential "Erections", and "Soviet Jewelry".

Chevy Chase, anchor of the news, would let her rant a bit and then gently correct her, e.g., "That's violence on television, not violins". Emily would turn to the camera, smile, and say "Never mind!"

So where does it come from?

And on the primative 3d stuff - go with just two objects instead of 3, it might work.

That primative 3D stuff is "bit" from the movie Tron. Those are his 3 states. orange is "yes" and red is "no" blue is neutral. So I can't really cut anything out. It doesn't matter though. To make it slow enough takes too many frames, and It doesn't even come close to 20k. It will take alot of work to get that one to fit. I probably won't bother. I just threw it up for fun. Also My head shots are from LawnmowerMan. You must go rent this dvd if you have not seen them before. It's dated, as far as the cgi goes, but It's story is amazing.

what did you make the 'bit' with?

And the Lawnmowerman was a very cool movie - seen it several times.
