This is probably a simple no brainer, and I hope it hasn't been discussed already (I looked!)...

Is it possible to take my older G4 Dual 1Ghz which is NOT "g" compliant and use the wired ethernet to go into an Airport Basestation and connect to AppleTV that way?

Yes, absolutely. The issue of "g" compliance is only concerning whatever part of your transmission is actually wireless.

I have a G4/933MHz single processor Quicksilver tower that is connected to an 802.11g router via CAT5 100baseT ethernet and it streams audio and video to the AppleTV just fine.

Yeah, it seems N isn't needed for audio/video streaming. It's even stated on Apple's site as something like "Video/audio streaming requires an 802.11g/n or Ethernet connection". In other words: Anything but 11Mbit 802.11b.

Just reread your post. If you can connect directly to your base station via ethernet you should be able to connect to AppleTV.
