In about three weeks, I'll be doing a pretty heavy film project where I'll be doing a lot of filtering and effects (including Chroma smoothing and recontruction) on 10-bit uncompressed HD.

The work I do now heavily taxes my current system and uses up 395% of my Quad 3.0Ghz Mac Pro processing power when using Final Cut Pro alone and no other applications!

So I am thinking of getting the 8-Core MacPro as it should give me a nice boost in timesavings for my upcoming projects this summer.

I'd like to know if there is any interest in my current machine. I'm not so wanting to sell it as it does the job, but would be willling to to get the 8-core for a further productivity boost.

The specs are as follows:

Quad Xeon 3.0Ghz
4GB DDR2 FB-DIMMS
10,000RPM RAPTOR 150GB boot drive
1.5TB Internal SATA2 RAID (3 WD 500GB RAID drives - model YS)
ATI X1900XT 512MB

This is a feeler for now as I still need the machine to finish a project for another 2 weeks. But after, I have about a weeks time free before I start the next project so if someone is interested, I can sell then and acquire the 8-Core in time.

Let me know if you are interested. Also, I'd be willing to bump the machine done to lower specs if you'd want, like back to stock configuration (250GB and 1GB only for example). I would simply transfer the stuff to the new machine.

Thanks.

Are you really going to get that big of a powerboost from going to the 8 core? I would stick some more ram in there(maybe upto 5 gigs?) and you should be fine for another year or so, or at least when the next MacPro's come out.

Well yes, I do think I would get a pretty good boost as all my apps are pro apps. Particularly, some filter sets I have for FCP completely use all 4 cores (and these are filters I use regularly).

I'll definitely be getting at least 8GB of RAM regardless as I am constantly paging out with the 4GB, especially when I do batch video transcoding ...

I know someone who is looking at just such a system (exact specs actually...well one extra HD...). He is also considering the quad core. He could probably do $3600. I'll find out for sure what his price is.

I was planning to wait, but this has me a little tempted..A quick question though before I do any more thinking about it.

Would you be willing to ship overseas?

Yes, I'd be willing to ... as long as shipping is covered ...

Of course, payment would have to clear first too :)
