Neat freak newbie. Can I hide the Mac HD icon?

Yes I know its trivial and silly, but none the less . . .

I have a cute little copy of the Mac HD image in my dock which I find much more aesthetically appealing than the lone icon on my desktop which is ruining the beautiful image of my vacation dream.

Is there a way to hide the Mac HD icon?

Honest to goodness I did a search under "hide HD" and other similar variations, but no luck. So thanks to any that take the time to read and answer!

Finder - Preferences - General - "Show these items on the Desktop" Uncheck Hard Disks.

Too slow.. But still faster than some 😀
 
Finder menu --> Preferences --> General

Uncheck "Hard disks" under "Show these items on the Desktop:"

Edit: I guess we all agree on this one. 😉
