Wow, 1826 users online and it's not even a big event day!

I guess the "box talk", Cancom, and photo are causing a big stir. Are we going to surpass it again before WWDC?

gawd!
i noticed 1400 around 3:00 (the last time i could get on the forums before now) IRC was a mess, too. spymac, macwhispers, everyone got smashed today.

didn't this crush the last record? wasn't it around 1100 users?

I know...it's great for the site as a whole! :D

however...it did suck not being able to get around for a few hours... :(

Thank goodness arn started using a second server not so long ago. Just imagine what it would have been like otherwise...... I've a feeling that this new record of 1800 users will soon be surpassed, and far more than two servers will be needed to keep up.

WWDC is gonna crush this record!

wow...this is great. spymac was even down for a while.

WWDC we will probably hit over 2000! :)

It was bad. I couldn't even check out the forum at all. I just gave up and tried later. It seems to be alot better now.

Won't the forums be closed for WWDC anyways?

Or at least the keynote...

I'd expect that like MWSF/MWNY the forums will be down during the event, but up immediately afterwards. This is when we saw our last record set.

Seriously people, who linked to us the most, heck it wasn't even the /. affect.

We lived through that one.

Like really who has that many people coming to the page?

BTW, WWDC will own the record.

This a great, keep the records coming. I hope that the server capacity will be increased ASAP, because I couldn't get on today during the record!

i've said it before and i'll say it again... the site doesn't pay for itself. you want higher capacity? donate.

When I looked at it earlier when the pics came out it had a record of 1550 - 1826 is amazing.

And arn shut the forums down, just had the front page working.

WWDC is going to be even worse....

Check out the MacAch at arstechnica, don't know what they'll finally decide -- but it looked like they're talking about just shutting down the forum for a couple hours to prevent the reloaders from consuming mega bandwidth.

WWDC: a way to handle the insanity (http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=8300945231&m=6670943075)

we probably won't break the record for this WWDC - since I'll probably shut down the forums before that happens.

Forums may only be open for Demi-Gods. There's no way the forums can handle the full load of everyone coming into it.

thats insane, talk about killing your server

you must be churning out 800GB a month for this site. Atleast

twas certainly a busy day to say the least.

It was quite unexpeted too, all because of some (now possibly defunct) pictures.

When was the previous record set?

Previous record was 1112 on 7-22-2002.

I'm not sure anyone ever figured out why either -- there weren't any major events or new stories that day.

I'm pretty sure that was right before the MDD PMs, wasn't it?

damn. If only I hadn't been consumed in a SC game..... (I played a single SC game for about 5 hours. Still haven't finished. Me vs 3 insane computers. Fastbuild.).

It could have been 1827. Well congrats, arn, for making a site that everyone likes. :)

i know a lot of people are excited about panther being announced at wwdc...but who knows when it will hit the stores...what would be cool is if panther is more streamlined and works faster with the same amount of ram...that would rock

has anyone seen the last page commentary in macworld's july issue?...i take it that he has never seen os x or just doesn't get it

now if steve jobs also introduces the next generation desktop computer for apple, then for sure the server load will be crazy

i don't know if there is any solid evidence of a G5 or ppc 970 announcement or not, but panther will be a welcome addition to all things mac:D

This is definitely going to be the most focused on Keynote of Steve Jobs ever! Just 5 days left!
